NOT QUITE TRUE. The 1497-1499 battle was fought not between Viterbo and Narni - which is only 30 miles to the east - but between Viterbo and Ferrara - which are 230 miles apart. On 16 April 1499 Sister Lucy finally secretly escaped from Viterbo, stopped in Narni (where her mother lived) and on 7 May 1499 was solemnly received in Ferrara. After 437 years, Ferrara returned her body to her home town and she was solemnly received again by her people at the Cathedral of Narni on 26 May 1936.

This two-year battle forms the background of Samuel Shellabarger's Prince of Foxes and is well documented by a collection of over 60 letters by the Duke Ercole d'Este I of Ferrara, his captain Alessandro da Fiorano and by Lucia Brocadelli herself.
