Corn

[edit]

"importation of corn at Ostia" - really? Corn in Rome? Or it is not an American corn but someting else ? --Tigga en 10:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The word "corn" can be synonymous with "grain", and it is in that way that this article uses it. It seems that "grain" would be a less ambiguous choice here. Pinktc 02:39, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is another case where British English usage diverges from that of American English: (the seeds of) plants, such as wheat, oats, and barley, that can be used to produce flour https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/corn. Ifly6 (talk) 17:48, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Demagogue vs populist

[edit]

I have replaced "demagogue" with "populist", because "demagogue" is political and polemical, while "populist" is more in tune with the neutrality policy of Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.154.246.163 (talk) 21:20, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

Can we have a citation for his death please? Other sources say he was lynched by a mob instead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.1.172.188 (talk) 16:00, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Glaucia's Death

[edit]

I noticed that in the stub on Gaius Servilius Glaucia it says he committed suicide, while in this one it says he was lynched. Is this a case of the exact circumstances not being known or is one of these articles inaccurate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.192.173.243 (talk) 05:58, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Saturninus' Death

[edit]

Recent scholarly consensus, following the initial suggestion in 1958 of Emilio Gabba, tends to agree that Saturninus did not die on the first day of office (i.e. 10 December 100), but on the first day after being elected – i.e. the day after the election, which was likely held in summer or autumn of 100.
