Notability

[edit]

I think this page has met Wikipedia's criteria for notability.

  • Source [1] is a full-length New York Times article about Kahn's band, Schmekel.
  • Source [2] is on Polygon, a subsidiary of Vox media, and contains two paragraphs about Kahn's game "Dead Friend."
  • Source [3] is a published book with several multiple-page spreads about Kahn's band.
  • Source [5] is a full-length article by the Jewish Music Research Centre at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, about a song written by Kahn, "I'm Sorry, It's Yom Kippur." — Preceding unsigned comment added by EliNathan (talkcontribs) 00:33, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Source [12] is a full-length article about Kahn's game "If I Were a Lich, Man" in Dicebreaker, which is listed as a reliable source for board games.
  • Source [25] is another full-length article in Dicebreaker (different reporter), this time about an anthology called "Hibernation Games" that Kahn edited and wrote a game for.
  • Source [16] is an award nomination for an "ENNIE Award," which seems to be a prominent award in the game industry. This is for "Visigoths vs. Mall Goths."
  • Source [24] is an award nomination for an "IndieCade Award," which also seems to be a prominent award in the game industry. This is for "Honey and Hot Wax."
  • Source [17] shows that a demonstration of "Visigoths vs. Mall Goths" was exhibited at the Museum of the Moving Image.
  • Source [15] is an award for "If I Were a Lich, Man" from the Indie Game Developer Network. (I'm not sure how important this award is, since there is no Wikipedia page for the organization.)

I found this article on the Schmekel page and am not well informed about board games, so I will wait for a second opinion. Even without the awards, it looks like the other sources meet the criteria on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(people). Can a more experienced editor assess if the Notability placard should be removed? EliNathan (talk) 04:17, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the notability placard because the combination of a notable career in music with the above articles and awards for his career in games satisfies Wikipedia:Notability_(people). Digging deeper into Kahn's work with Schmekel, his musical career alone already meets the notability requirements. Being notable in multiple areas satisfies the notability requirements for a biography. I have added additional citations for Schmekel where relevant. There's zero in-depth coverage of him. The band gets coverage, the game gets coverage. But nothing in the current article shows his notability.Onel5969 TT me 14:06, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How do any game designers get notable except through their games? ElfEsteem (talk) 14:19, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An author is notable for their books, a painter is notable for their paintings, and a game designer is notable for their games. What else would they be notable for? ElfEsteem (talk) 14:45, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I’m comparing this article to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Creative_professionals.
Does the current article satisfy #3 because of Visigoths vs. Mall Goths and Schmekel? “The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews” Nodicenomasters (talk) 20:33, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
