Why American spellings?

[edit]

Why does this article about a subject with no US connections whatsoever, use so many American spellings? It should be using French/ international spelling, i.e. centre, metre, not center, meter.Flubbergusted (talk) 09:53, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

French spellings are for French Wikipedia. This is English Wikipedia and we use English spellings. If an article is about a city, animal, plant, or person in the UK, then UK spelling is used; if it’s about something in Australia, then the Australian standard is used; if it’s in the U.S., then American spelling is used. But for most of the world (Europe, including France, Africa, Asia, etc.), we use the English variant that the first writer was using when a regional variation was detectable. It is explained in this article: WP:ENGVAR. —Stephen (talk) 10:20, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The second edit in this article's history is the first edit that established any evidence of a variant of English, using the word "centre", therefore this article should retain the UK spelling. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:23, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
