Taxonomic status of variants

Chinense vs sinensis
[edit]I am curious how this species came to be called "chinense." I thought plants indigenous to China were typically named "sinensis" from the latin word for Chinese, for instance Wisteria sinensis, Camellia sinensis, or Cordia sinensis.
