Pachycereus?

[edit]

Is Pachycereus an old name for the genus? it probably needs to be explained somewhere? Near the start with the names.

Alternatively, one of the images might be the wrong type of cactus?

@Industrial Metal Brain: no, Lophocereus and Pachycereus are independent genera, both currently accepted. The taxonomy of cacti is often tangled: see Cactus#Taxonomy and classification. So species have often been placed in various genera before the currently accepted one. Peter coxhead (talk) 13:25, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Peter coxhead, do you mean the genus still exists but this species was reclassified? Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 08:11, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Industrial Metal Brain: exactly. Look at the long list of synonyms in the taxobox, which includes Pachycereus marginatus. The reclassification into Lophocereus stems from a 2009 paper online at JSTOR if you have access. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:49, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't notice the drop down list. Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 13:34, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
