IPA

[edit]

Nardog, you have objected to Welsh pronunciation: [ɬanˡe·dəɪrn] and /lanˡɛdɪn/. You say it is not IPA, although it pretty clearly is, or is intended to be. However I note that we use just a ' for primary stress so fixed those characters. The only other issue I can see is that e· is not in our Welsh IPA guide. I read that as half-long e. Would you concur? How should we render that? Are there any other objections here? Thanks. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 16:38, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

⟨ˡ⟩ means lateral release, and primary stress is denoted by ⟨ˈ⟩not ⟨'⟩—in IPA. Half-long is denoted by ⟨ˑ⟩, not ⟨·⟩. And yes, any transcription linking to a key should use the conventions laid out in the key; that's the whole point of a key. [əɪ] is not in the key either, and the note in the key says it's represented by ⟨ɛi⟩ for South Wales Welsh. Nardog (talk) 14:17, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The single source for this entire section is just the Geiradur main page. This is probably an error by the original editor but are there better sources available for this information? Cymrogogoch (talk) 03:13, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
