Name
[edit]Is the English name really Llandaff and the Welsh, Llandaf (Welsh article)? I'm not an expert but it seems the wrong way round. --Moochocoogle 21:36, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- It's the right way round: the two are pronounced differently. Gareth 08:30, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Doctor Who
[edit]There's a mild editor war going on between Goodacre and FruitMonkey about inclusion of a reference to filming an episode of Doctor Who in Llandaff. I'm on FruitMonkey's side; I don't think such a reference is really encyclopaedic. The fact that filming took place won't be of any interest in 10 years time, and probably not in 2 or 3 years.
The header section was obviously inappropriate, and the Economy section is hardly any better. If people really do want to mention this, I think it would be best placed in a Trivia or Ephemera section.
Incidentally, I skimmed the Doctor Who wiki page, and didn't see any mention of Llandaff in that, so the location doesn't seem of much interest to Dr Who aficionados. Does that hint that its removal from the Llandaff entry would be justified? Eebkent (talk) 10:00, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- I suppose it does have some local importance. I think the fact that there is no mention of Llandaff on the Doctor Who page is irrelevant. It wouldn't list every single filming location. There is sufficient reliable third party coverage of the Llandaff filming such as on Wales Online for inclusion. I disagree that there will not be future interest. Doctor Who is a high profile worldwide series, and repeats are a common thing. Note that trivia sections are strongly discourage. A media section would be appropriate, that also goes into more detail about BBC Wales' headquarters and studios in Broadcasting House. Welshleprechaun 14:05, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Demography (Language)
[edit]An interesting sentence, duly sourced, on the Welsh language has just been removed. I can't see any good reason for this. Happy to debate the point, but my instinct is to restore it. Eebkent (talk) 20:11, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
In the north of Cardiff
[edit]In the lead sentence we call Llandaff "a district in the north of Cardiff, capital of Wales". In the upper right map we show the "Llandaff electoral ward of Cardiff" slightly west of the geographic center of Cardiff, and much closer to the southern than northern edge along a due N–S line. Is it not the same Cardiff?

- Llandaff is north of the city centre, and almost certainly north of the centre of population. The map is of the City and County of Cardiff which includes some rural areas. As with many coastal cities, Cardiff has grown asymmetrically: it is restricted by the sea to the south-east. We could say north-west. Verbcatcher (talk) 21:43, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- It's a good point! "northwest of the city centre" would save confusion, or maybe "2 and half miles northwest of the city centre". Sionk (talk) 21:51, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
