I looked in half a dozen books that mentioned him but was not able to confirm this assertion adapted from Franklin Garrett's history:

"During the United States Civil War, Mims was in the Confederate States Navy, serving as a Major on the CSS Alabama."

Everything I saw was army; So, I've removed this. Jolomo 18:15, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
