Suggest moving information from "Distribution" to introductory paragraph + More information

[edit]

Most of the plant/tree pages I've been reading have the information on where the plant/tree is native and its distribution, including if it's recognised as an invasive species, in the introductory paragraph.

May I suggest for consistency that this information from the "distribution" section be moved to the introductory paragraph.

More information on this plant may be available here: https://www.cabi.org/isc/datasheet/31024

@Tzali: Your suggestion is working in the wrong direction for the improvement of articles. Using sections is the preferred layout for most (if not all) WP articles. Have a look at the recommended template for plant articles at the WikiProject Plants page, there you'll see all the recommended sections that might be included in a plant article.
So, adding sections is the way that we want to go when editing an article. I've noticed you making suggestions on many plant pages and I assume you have a keen interest in Australian plants - may I suggest that you spend some time learning how to edit pages? I'm sure your enthusiasm will be appreciated on Wikipedia. Some basic instructions can be found here and here, and you can practise in your own sandbox, which you'll find here. I forgot to add the most basic of all instructions - Wikipedia's own cheatsheet  Junglenut |Talk  12:51, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Junglenut, Thank you for your suggestion. I don't have time to learn how to edit pages, and I'm happy to stick with doing basic stuff. Additionally, as a result of past experience with a couple of the 'leaders' here, I have no wish to become involved any further. I remain concerned that my personal treatment/judgement is a reflection of what is normal practice here, and I can only assume this happens to others too.

I've had a look at the recommended template for plant articles as you suggested, but as I know very little about plants, and am only trying to be helpful in providing other online articles or suggestions, I don't find the recommended template helpful for me, because I don't know how to use it. I don't even know where to go to tell others on Wikipedia about the other very important resource that I've been suggesting, which provides some quite detailed information on thousands of plants, some of which are missing from Wikipedia or have only a limited amounted of information here.

I refer to the Invasive Species Compendium, which can be found here: https://www.cabi.org/isc/ - so I will leave that with you to pass onto the relevant group, and I won't add this information onto any new plant pages that I find.

This wood is also used for making barrels to age 40°N fish sauce.

I'm not sure the right way to add this to the page, however. Do I make a different section? Catalysten (talk) 04:26, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
