Accurate drug for the meaning of the song?

[edit]

As a medical student I'm wondering why lithium was chosen as the drug in this song instead of an antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication. I guess just because lithium sounds a lot better than "Amitriiiiiiiptyyyyyyyyyyline...."

Yeah. Come to think of it that would probably be the reason. Though lithium isn't really focused a whole lot on depression, it's the easiest to make a song about.

Untitled

[edit]

Many people have asked what the word Lithium's purpose is in this song. Lithium is a very common alkali metal. It has many uses, practical and rare, it can be said with almost 100% certainty that it is reffering to the use of certain Lithium salts for the treatment of manic depression and bi-polar disorder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.58.176.170 (talkcontribs)

I want the article back! umm, yeah, okay, uhh, etc --Monkey13! 00:29, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Video

[edit]

This question may sound stupid, but has the Music Video for Lithium aired yet? UnDeRsCoRe 00:11, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, it hasn't. MTV showed a little 10 seconds behind the scenes for the video, hence the picture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by InnocentEnough (talkcontribs)
Oh, you mean this MTV video? I can't wait to see the music video. While I'm on that subject, has an air date been announced? UnDeRsCoRe 00:49, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also be interested in a date. Anybody know? —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 05:16, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing yet that I've been able to find. As I just added to the article, the only known date in reference to Lithium (that I've found) is the Dec 4 release in UK. Curious how little information, yet so close to that date... -- Huntster T@C 05:30, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the video has aired, but on tv, I'm not sure. It is available on the band's myspace page, on google video, and on their website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blooderayne (talkcontribs)

BTW, the Music video looks way too similar to Love Like Winter, in my opinion.

Next Single

[edit]

How do you know that Sweet Sacrifice is going to be the third single? Armando (talk|contribs) 01:47, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We don't. Some IP just added some unsourced claims. UnDeRsCoRe 21:41, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

and theres also very little doubt that it ever will be a single because last time the singles evanescence released they played accoustic on music video programs, this time the only songs that they played were...Lacrymosa, Weight of the World, Good Enough, Call Me When You're Sober, Lithium (I Think)Zacanescence 15:11, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It will be "All That I'm Living For". Amy said so at the concert. -Monkey 13!!! 23:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, but we should not add it to Wikipedia until there is something in writing or verifiably in the media that this ill be the next single. -- Huntster T@C 00:15, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But cameras weren't aloud at the concert. -Monkey 13!!! 00:46, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but because it's not verifiable other than your word (no offense), we'll need to wait until it is in printed/published/aired on some kind of media. -- Huntster T@C 04:19, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Hunster, and im sure Amy will confirm it on either evboard.com or Evthreads.com pretty soon Zacanescence 18:18, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly hope it's not on EvBoard, given that (as I recall) we cannot create citations using closed-community/pay-to-view websites (other than independently verifiable sites like newspapers that require a subscription). -- Huntster T@C 18:39, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to the article on All That I'm Living For, someone illegally filmed it and it leaked. -Monkey 13!!! 21:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case, then we cannot use it as a source, as that would be a copyright violation (linking to CV material on YouTube). -- Huntster T@C 23:20, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JUST WAIT FOR IT TO BE ANNOUNCED ON EvThreads.com or Evanescence's Official website, they are the most reliable sources Zacanescence 08:17, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly. Though if it's on EvThreads, make sure *they* are citing an official source...can't come from just a random poster :) -- Huntster T@C 10:12, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, its easy to tell because under their user names it says "BAND MEMBER" and no one else is allowed to have that also Amy Lee's username on EvThreads is SnowWhite

ok well it's been announced by amy on evthreads in the all that i'm living for thread. weird, but it's there.

Not any longer. It has now been [announced] that Sweet Sacrifice will be the next. My, how things can change. -- Huntster T@C 03:03, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

.

[edit]

Evanescence has changed the cover of lithium's single again?? I like that of before!! it was more of snow.. (I'm italian.. my english it can be wrong.. so correct me : P) Donbu 20:42, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We don't officially know what the cover will look like yet. Everything is subject to change. -- Huntster T@C 00:12, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lithium EP

[edit]

What about the Lithium EP? It's going to have a CD and a DVD. The DVD features the CMWYS and the Bring Me To Life perfomances on the VMALA 06 and the CD features a song called Ecotone...I've read it on the EvThreads Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 16:38, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you look at it), EvThreads cannot be used as an official source unless it is a post from Amy. Also, my understanding is that the DVD has been cancelled, though I do not remember where I read this at. At this time, only those Singles listed on the page are official. (By the way, it would not be called an EP, just a single) -- Huntster T@C 18:26, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to sources, there will be no Lithium EP... However, Lithium will actually be two singles. Litium Part 1 and Lithium Part 2. Both to be released in the UK on January 9, 2007; not the 8th. The first single will have Lithium and The Last Song I'm Wasting On You.(Which is really cool and fun to play: abbriviated TLSIWOY). The second CD (Dubbed MAXI on wiki's main article) will feature an enhanced version of lithium(music) and Enhanced Video version. It will also Include an enhanced TLSIWOY as well as an accustic All That I'm Living For.Some shots of the Album Artwork: http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000KC838E.01._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_V34402735_.jpg http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000KC838E.01.BACK._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_V34402735_.jpg http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000KCHXUI.01._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_V34403322_.jpg http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000KCHXUI.01.BACK._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_V34403322_.jpg —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blooderayne (talkcontribs) 11:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out Amazon's change. I wonder when they made the change to Part 1 and Part 2...hmm. I'll add this info to the article. -- Huntster T@C 01:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that think of the Lithium EP was a big lie...I'm sorry...and Amy has confirmed that there will never was and never will be an Ev song called Ecotone. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 01:32, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki

[edit]

sorry for my english, but I would put the interwiki to it.wiki: [[it:Lithium]]. thanks, bye--DoubleQ 22:47, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done! -- Huntster T@C 23:17, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lithium's cover

[edit]

but you're sure that the cover of Lithium is that posted? I don't belive... --Donbu 18:39, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Given that Amazon.com now has both the front *and* back covers for the two versions, I'd say it is pretty much official. It is still feasible that something is amiss, but at this point, I consider this a remote possibility. -- Huntster T@C 19:15, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV???

[edit]

The following passage from this article sounds extremely POV:

"This video bares striking resmblance to AFI's "Love Like Winter" video, directed by Marc Webb, leading many fans to believe that Evanescence should come up with some ideas of their own, and stop stealing them from more talented groups."

I think it should be removed. Anyone agree? --WikiFiend90 23:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This was simple vandalism, and has been removed by another editor. -- Huntster T@C 19:23, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Im sure i read it a while ago and it didnt have the part about the stealing. I thought that it was more a factual statement and the music videos are in fact very similar, is there something wrong with noticing that and adding it onto the page? Grey witch 11:54, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm, two points against adding it. One, it isn't very relevant to the article, and simply describes a similarity between two works, which isn't very notable. Two (and this is the bigger problem), because it is really just an opinion of similarity, it smacks of falling under Original Research. I'd recommend leaving it out. -- Huntster T@C 19:41, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, thank you for the speedy reply Huntster.10:33, 2 January 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grey witch (talkcontribs)

U.S. Date

[edit]

Gosh, are they ever gonna release it in the U.S.? Has there been any word on it ever being released?

you guys havent gotten it out yet? we got it here in Aus January 15

Very glad

[edit]

that this wasn't a nirvana cover. my god, she killed "heart shaped box".

however, i enjoy all of their music aside from that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.102.11.203 (talk) 06:22, 7 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Genre

[edit]

Lithium is for sure either new wave, dark wave, or espically cold wave. theres no way such a slow emotional song can be only alternative and piano rock. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.95.139.47 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Maybe so, but if you want to make such a statement in the article, you need to find a source that states as much. -- Huntster T@C 14:16, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

Please The other article claims that it is a cover of this song, so they are about the same thing. Consequently, they should be merged. -Justin (koavf)TCM04:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well-written:
  • 1a Lede: "sees writing credits"- is this really the right wording, as opposed to something like "carries writing credits"? "US" should be U.S. per WP:NOTUSA. "at a snowy forest" should be "in". Last para of Commercial performance goes from Europe to Europe- the latter should be "continental Europe" in contrast to UK and Ireland. 1b WP:WORDSTOWATCH "noted" in Critical reception. Suggest the top 10 sentences at the end of this section be its own para rather than lumped with the mixed reviews.

  • Verifiable with no original research
2a Thoroughly referenced 2b generally fine sources. 2c. Per WP:BLP, please place citations immediately after statements such as the group suing the manager and Balsamo having a stroke. Reference for quote "which embraces feeling over numbness"? Reference for quote "metaphor for happiness from a negative point of view"? Reference for quote "It's looking at it like, 'I don't want to numb myself and not feel anymore'"? Citation for "Initially, Lee was indecisive as to which song to choose as the second single from The Open Door, having in mind four different album tracks"? [1] doesn't put Lithium at #32. Citation for "premiered exclusively to Canadian audiences on MuchMusic.com on November 24, 2006"? Don't see Evanescence here [2] This [3] doesn't include number 44. 2d. Copyright and close paraphrasing concerns:
"between the comfort of sorrow and the idea of happiness":"guitarist Ben Moody left the band"
"constant cycles of being trapped in bad life situations and relationships"
  • Broad in its coverage:
    1. 3a. This is my first time I've reviewed a song article, but it covers the bases of other song GAs; I love Evanescense and this covers what I knew about the song. 3b. Not a lot off topic
  • Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  • 4. No concerns

  • Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  • 5. No edit wars taking place

  • Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio
  • 6. Photo is attributed.

I think I have addressed everything. My love is love 22:35, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick response @My love is love:, but I wouldn't say "noticed" is much more neutral than noted. I also see in some cases you spell out numbers higher than 10 but sometimes you don't. Any logic as to why? Also, can you explain where the Bottomley VH1 reference backs the quotes it's being used to support? Ribbet32 (talk) 00:25, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've replaced the word with "observed", spelled out all numbers and fixed the references. My love is love 13:40, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @My love is love:, can you point out where the Dale Kawashima reference includes the quotes I've left uncrossed out? Also, numbers should still be consistent, note the advice User:Huntster gave. Ribbet32 (talk) 16:44, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    @Ribbet32:  Done now. My love is love 16:53, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK @My love is love:, take care of the missing reference for the stroke and archive the Commercial section 32 reference [4] and this can be wrapped up. Ribbet32 (talk) 17:15, 2 September 2017 (UTC)  Done[reply]
