Was not Iran a player in the Lebanon Civil War(s) (e.g., Hezbolah).

Also, they provide funding, weapons, and training to Hamas and most likely the PLO as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.36.49 (talk) 05:10, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Seleucid empire covered entire Iran.

Can you tell why the battles of Seleucid empire are not being retained on this article? I saw this removal that's why I am asking.

This empire covered whole present-day Iran, and it has found significant details on both History_of_Iran#Greek_conquest_and_Seleucid_Empire_(312_BC–248_BC) and Iran#Classical_antiquity.

It makes no sense to ignore the battles fought by this empire. 117.99.55.67 (talk) 16:57, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Since the article doesn't actually define what it means by "Iran", "precursor to Iran", and "involving Iran" in the lead, it's really hard to say what should or shouldn't be included. This is the kind of thing where a clear statement of scope is needed first. Then you can decide whether, for example, Seleucid empire battles involve the territory and peoples that became Iran, or if Iran was just kind of chilling over there while the empire fought, and whether that question should matter in the first place, or if, instead, all battles involving the Seleucid empire "involve a precursor state to Iran", and hence count. Without those definititions, we literally can't decide. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 7.8% of all FPs 04:02, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The lead describes the criteria as the "list of wars involving the Islamic Republic of Iran and its predecessor states". If that definition is to be followed then Seleucid Empire needs to be included. You raise a good point. We can include only those empires that situated their empire's capital in present-day Iran but it will require removal of Ghurid dynasty, Timurid dynasty. Content

[edit]

Since this article is named "List of wars involving Iran", it should only include entities who actually used the name "Iran" (or its variants), and should only include actual wars, not sieges, uprisings, battles, etc. HistoryofIran (talk) 23:13, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article scope

[edit]

The article scope is ridiculous; should be broken up and split into separate articles; namely a separate one for modern Iran. Makeandtoss (talk) 10:40, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

not Iranians

[edit]

half of these sheets have nothing to do with Iran at all 213.230.74.196 (talk) 17:26, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
