[edit]Hi, I see someone has proposed this page for deletion already. Please give the reasons for this. It don't feel it meets the criteria for a speedy deletion, and I think it is a useful addition to Wikipedia. I was searching for a list of vampires in fiction, and I got nothing. In the end I had to go onto the rest of the internet to find a list which was taken from the contents page of the book "A Vampire Gallery". Wikipedia already has lists for witches and wizards, I don't see why it shouldn't have one for vampires too. I acknowledge the page is currently very poor, but it just needs a bit of work and it could grow to be quite comprehensive. Chris r reynolds 19:25, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not the editor who tagged it, but they may have felt it violated Wikipedia is not an indisciminate collection of information. The article vampire fiction does contain a list of sorts. You may want to propose splitting that information into a list on that article's talk page. Natalie 19:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- OK I have started a proposal for merging/keeping/deleting the article over at vampire fiction
- Chris r reynolds 19:30, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- I would agree this needs to be deleted. It is by no means a comprehensive list of fictional vampires, but seems to be more of a place for people to list their favorite vampires. Note the overwhelming number of Twilight and Buffy vampires listed, and comparative lack of other fictional vampires. Crashmasterd (talk) 03:51, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
FICTIONAL Vampires
[edit]are there any other kind? Aapold (talk) 05:34, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
It is to distinguish it from the other article List of vampires in folklore and mythology. Perhaps, renaming the article to 'List of vampires in fiction' would be more appropriate. However 'List of vampires in fiction' is already set-up to redirect to this page anyway.
Guidelines
[edit]Please post in alphabetical order! Once each list gets long enough, feel free to add sub-headings for each letter for easier navigation. Include ranges if not all letters are covered (i.e. X-Z). Unless a character's title is specifically part of their name (i.e. Count von Count of Sesame Street) or Count is used in the name of the character's corresponding Wiki article (i.e. Count Dracula), please refrain from listing the title when adding an entry, but rather place them alphabetically sans titles.
This article is a list, please do not break from the format when adding examples. Each entry's respective articles should provide any explanation if needed, as such there is no reason to post summaries. If you feel a need to justify your entry, include it in comments following your edit so you can alert future editors as to your reasoning without disrupting the flow of the article.
Make sure to always include both the character and the work of fiction the character is from. If it is the case that the character appears in more than one category, make sure to link to the correct page. For example, D from Vampire Hunter D is currently in every category but each fiction link is to the corresponding version's (literary, film, manga, video game, etc.) correct wiki article.
Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Flygongengar (talk • contribs) 22:44, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn`t this list include only notable vampires who play some important role in certain piece of fiction? Problem is that VtM(and new version, Requiem) has insane number of named vampires, lots of them could be found in DnD/Warhammer fantasy books and probably other rpg books too. Also many high fantasy computer games have vampires in them, various shows with throwaway characters and so on. Wouldn`t this list get too confusing, and kinda pointless, with so many names and sources? --BlisterD (talk) 11:44, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- If the vampire is in a book series, list and link to the book series (Twilight, The Mortal Instruments) but no need to add the word "series". If a character becomes a vampire late in a series (e.g. Bella Cullen), list only the books where that happens, not the entire series. If the vampire is found in a comic or manga, do not list in the literary section unless they are in a light novel or book serialization. -AngusWOOF (talk)
Twilight Vampires
[edit]Is it really necessary to add every single vampire in the Twilight Saga? Some of them have a very small role! 201.43.29.22 (talk) 16:17, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- ...Should they really count as vampires at all? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.242.122.4 (talk) 07:39, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Verification of entries?
[edit]How are entries verified? Some look pretty suspicious to me, for instance the "St Andrew's School" entries; I'm not aware of any fictional work of that name, nor can I find any references on Google. (I realise that in itself is only an indication they may not exist) --MegaSloth (talk) 01:35, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
- Given the lack of response, I propose that all entries should be verifiable by either:
- Containing a link to an extant Wikipedia article that mentions the individual by a name recognisable as being the same as the one in this list (by definition such content must already be verifiable or it is subject to removal), or
- Containing an explicit citation of a suitable reliable source
- This will allow editors to more easily determine the strength of claim of individual entries to exist and is in line with Wikipedia policy on the burden of proof. --MegaSloth (talk) 14:04, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Vampires are fictitious
[edit]It is redundant to name this article 'List of fictional vampires'. Fictional is implied by the topic - vampires. A more appropriate title would be 'Vampires in popular culture', or some other similar title. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.157.1.65 (talk) 18:01, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Literary section
[edit]I was repairing links to disambiguation pages, and noticed that John Mitchell and William Herrick from Being Human are listed under the "Literary" section as well as the "Cinematic/Televised" one. Now, I know that the BBC has released a few novels based on the Being Human series, but the characters are primarily from TV. Should they be in the "Literary" section as well? (Actually, Herrick's in "Literary" only, which is singularly odd.) Just a heads up for the people who maintain this list. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 00:09, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- I have just seen this message. I have already moved most of the Being Human characters, from the literary section to the the "Cinematic / Televised" list, a while ago. However I left Mitchell in the literary section since he is the main character of all books. I just reedited the link so that it links to the Being Human books. In the books Herrick is only mentioned when Mitchell thinks about his past, so he is not a very important character in the books. I added him to the "Televised" list. There are other (book only) characters, which I did not add as well, like Albert, Arnold, Betty, Christopher, Janice Prescott, Justine, Olive King, Sanjay and Stu. I do not think you remember a lot of them, when you read the books and I doubt that many people would search for them. However you will definitly remember Mitchell after reading one of the books and some might want to find more about him. That is why I kept Mitchell in the literary section and moved all the others.—Dynara23 (talk • contribs) 22:35, 30 May 2014
Cleanup
[edit]This list needs some major cleanup and formatting, particularly with the division between Television and Film. If anyone wants to help (or object) reply here. I'll start on this sometime in the near-ish future. Ncboy2010 (talk) 17:01, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- While you're cleaning it up, should credentials be made as to what exactly defines a "vampire" for this list? I mean, seeing the Pokemon Golbat here did make me laugh, but still... Sakaki22 (talk) 08:47, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Cleanup 2
[edit]I was scanning through the list and noticed a LOT of characters that aren't linked to articles. A little sleuthing shows that some of these are from series or books that wouldn't pass notability guidelines for books in the slightest and I feel that the list should contain only characters that are from notable series that would pass guidelines. I'll try to add articles where I can, but I think that this needs a cleaning. We're not a listing for every vampire ever written.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 04:21, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- The characters should be notable themselves. If they're just one-off guest characters in an episode, chapter or segment, that shouldn't count unless their performance is significant. Similarly if the character is mentioned in passing (vampire's parents), it does not need to be noted. For characters that become vampires later in a series, it might be helpful to cite the book, season, or volume in which they turn, to distinguish from those who were introduced as vampires. -AngusWOOF (talk) 17:29, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
I'd very much like to see Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's St. Germain listed here. He is the main character in a large number of her books and although the character has his own Wikipedia page, his name is missing from this list.--Open2uandu (talk) 00:13, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- Done I've added him under Literary - S. -AngusWOOF (talk) 02:10, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
WorldCat Genres
[edit]Hello, I'm working with OCLC, and we are algorithmically generating data about different Genres, like notable Authors, Book, Movies, Subjects, Characters and Places. We have determined that this Wikipedia page has a close affintity to our detected Genere of vampire-films. It might be useful to look at [1] for more information. Thanks. Novelizations in literary genre?
[edit]Should characters be listed under Literary for Novelizations of films such as Underworld: Rise of the Lycans by Greg Cox? Unfortunately there's hardly anything mentioned about this in the film's entry. -AngusWOOF (talk) 23:56, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
List of fictional vampires - Cinematic: Link error . . . Janos Skorzeny
[edit]For the character of Janos Skorzeny(Night Stalker), clicking on the name Janos Skorzeny does not lead to the site for the character from the tv movie Night Stalker, as intended. Instead it leads to a site for a different character of the same name from the tv series Werewolf. I'm sure the link can be corrected though I don't know how to do it. Please fix. Thanks. Should presence in manga / anime override literary?
[edit]There are lots of vampire characters that start in the manga before going to the media franchises around it such as anime television, live-action film, video games, and light novels. Should they be removed from literary or left in all spots where they are present? AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 16:23, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- I am not so much into manga and anime, so I am not sure about this. I know that there are some manga who are very popular as a manga but also as an anime television series (like Vampire Princess Miyu) and are shown in many different countries. I think some productions might be known better as an anime even though they started as a manga. Maybe it would be a start to seperate the "Cinematic / Televised" section into Live action and Animation (maybe even a third: Animee) like in Vampire film. --Dynara23 (talk) 18:41, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
References?
[edit]Should every single vampire of a series (for example Twilight or Buffy) be mentioned or just the important ones? I mean I love Buffy and have all the DVD's at home but I still don't know who the vampire Tara is and I wonder if anyone else does or is interested in looking it up on this page. If s.o. is interested in such a character wouldn't he or she rather look it up at the Buffy Wikia or other Buffy pages? This list seems to be a list where everyone seems to be able to add everything. It is not mentioned how important a character needs to be to be added. Either it should be defined in a paragraph above the list or the added characters should be referenced to. If there would be relevant references it would be a lot easyer. Unimportant characters aren't found in the media and if there wouldn't be any references they can not be added. It would be hard to find all the references about the characters that are already added. But isn't it a rule of wikipedia, that there should be a reference for the added information? I mean if there is a link to a character I think it's okay, then there are references to the character on the linked page, but if there aren't any links it's rather difficult to know whether a character is important or not. I am not a natural English speaker, so please excuse me for my mistakes ;) --Dynara23 (talk) 18:41, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Mona the Vampire
[edit]Technically speaking, Mona Parker is not a real vampire within the show but rather imagines herself to be. 99.252.156.13 (talk) 05:24, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Cleanup 3
[edit]Unless anyone objects, I would like to do another cleanup of this list. I am planning to use the same criteria as described in the previous cleanup discussions and the Verification of Entries discussion.
Specifically removing entries which have;
- No wikilink or reference
- A wikilink to the work they are from, however they are not mentioned in that article.
I believe this will help keep the list limited to notable instances which have some level of verification. However I would love to hear the opinions of other editors on this matter. Bakilas (talk) 05:33, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- I think it is a good idea. Maybe you can put the characters who are removed onto the talk page, like done here with the zombie films: Redlinked zombie films. Then if someone feels that a character was removed incorrectly he or she can readd it with the proper sources.
- When I look at the characters added for Buffy (which I absolutly love): I do not think the following characters are suitable for this list: Absalom, Alphonse, Andrew Borba, Andrew Hoelich, Billy "Ford" Fordham, Blair, Bob, Boone, Brad Konig, Brian, Candy Gorch, Carl, Charlotte, Christy, Claw, Colin, Dav, Eddie, Glenn, Holden Webster, Jane, Jape, Jerry, Julia, Justin, Kakistos, Lenny, Lucius, Luke, Lyle Gorch, Ma Gorch, Mort, Ned, Rookie, Mr. Sanderson, Sandy, Sheila Martini, Sunday, Tara, Tector Gorch, Theresa Klusmeyer, Tom, Vincent, Zachary, Zachary Kralik, Zack. For those characters there is a Buffy wikia. So it is really good to remove those characters I think.
- What is also a major problem of this article is that people keep adding characters into the "literary" section, that belong into the "cinematic / televised" or "comics and manga" list. I have removed those characters again and again in the past. It is okay to add characters from TV series there that also appear in the books of the TV series, like forexample Spike, Angel, Darla and Drusilla of Buffy who appear in a lot of Buffy and Angel novels (a lot of these novels even have their own wikipedia page), Barnabas Collins who appears in the Dark Shadows novels, John Mitchell who appears in the Being Human novels etc. Basically of all the novels that are mentioned here: Vampire fiction based on TV series, as well as those ones who were the books existed before the TV series, like The Southern Vampire Mysteries (True Blood) or The Vampire Diaries. But often characters are added there which are only television characters. This is very confusing.
- Well I will try to find and add at least some sources for some of the characters mentioned here. Then this article will not be completely unsourced. However I will leave the removal of the characters up to you. ;) --Dynara23 (talk) 19:22, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
- I will leave it a little bit longer in case anyone else wants to chime in, will probably take a crack at it after the weekend. Bakilas (talk) 05:18, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your edits so far! The list looks much better now. I thought of making a table of the characters, when you are finished, what do you or anybody else here does think about this?:

- I like it. The only foreseeable problem would be listing actors for Dracula, since he has made more than a few on screen appearances. Bakilas (talk) 12:37, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the answer then I will do it later this week. With Dracula it is not such a big problem, I have added him to the table above and I think it would be okay like this. I have added a third possible title and actor as I know that some characters will definitly appear in three series or films, if it is four or more it can be added in the 3+ line as well, but there will not be too many of these anyway. Or maybe if you or someone else has a better suggestion I am open for any suggestions.

- --Dynara23 (talk) 10:40, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
I would get rid of the Title 2 and 3+ columns and just merge them to the Title as a list e.g. Buffy, Angel. Also get rid of the actor columns as there are franchises with all sorts of actors portraying the vampire character. Also shorten References to Refs. Creator is kind of tricky as many of the vampires were created by authors of books/manga and then adapted into television and film where they get an interpretation from a director. Dracula entry is good; I like that it goes to the Dracula screen portrayals section. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 02:37, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
Well the slog through is complete and the list should be much cleaner now, at least until a few edits change things up again. Bakilas (talk) 05:38, 27 October 2017 (UTC)
The Addition of Actual Plays as a Media Format
[edit]Actual Plays (in which sessions of TTRPGs are filmed for entertainment) are a growing form of media. In some respects they can be comparable to a form of theater. Therefore, I would propose to add a section on vampires from actual plays such as LA by Night to detail characters such as Jasper, Annabelle, Carver among many others. This would make the list more comprehensive, as these stories contribute heavily to modern interpretations of the vampire mythology. Mieri Bramble (talk) 12:13, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
