Seems a bit dubious to include The "Osterby Man" (a peat body that's been carbon dated to 100BC) in a list of "unsolved murders" from the 1940s.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.157.136.155 (talk) 22:12, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- It said that his remains were discovered in the 1940s and has now been moved to the right section that being during the time that he lived.

Notability criterion
[edit]Hi, just a curiosity question: Is there a criterion when a murder is notable enough to be included here? Is the guideline that the victim has to have their own WP entry? --Syzygy (talk) 08:13, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Splitting this article
[edit]This article is currently one of the largest on the wiki, at 424,000+ bytes, which is far too long. After looking at the section sizes and doing some math, I suggest we split this article into List of unsolved murders (1901–1979) (with ~217,000+ bytes) and List of unsolved murders (1980–2000) (with ~206,000+ bytes), for an almost perfect split in half. - Seem like an OK idea to me. Davidgoodheart (talk) 11:36, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

"Officially unsolved"
[edit]Most of the entries on this list end with something like, "the case remains officially unsolved," "no other suspects have been identified," or similar. If this wasn't true, then the case wouldn't be on the list. Do we really need to keep this in every entry?
My question remains officially unanswered. 2601:249:8A80:9700:7486:C45D:BB94:685 (talk) 14:17, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Binnicker-Thames
[edit]Do the murders of Betty June Binnicker and Mary Thames (the George Stinney case) count as unsolved? A conviction was obtained but vacated years later. Truecrimefan22 (talk) 15:41, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Several months late, but if the conviction was vacated and there haven't been any others then the case would be officially considered unsolved because the person who was convicted is legally considered not responsible for the crime.--Tulzscha (talk) 22:47, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
