Created

[edit]

The article "List of terms about pen and ink" was created by long-term user Wikid77 (me) on 17 April 2011, to list topics about ink pens and inks. This list allows for inclusion of semi-notable topics which are not yet notable enough for separate articles, or not specifically limited to a sub-section of just 1 article. For example, a well-known pen-and-ink technique might be redirected to 1 line in the list but nowhere else. -Wikid77 13:38, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Purpose of list

[edit]

As a general catch-all list, this "List of terms about pen and ink" can also hold terms of questionable separate notability (such as "nibmeister"). Recall that Wikipedia's WP:NOTABLE policy allows topics (or people) to be mentioned within another notable-subject article, although each of those topics (or people) might not quality for a separate article which requires "individual notability". However, those topics/people can have redirect pages (containing "#REDIRECT") to point into other articles which describe them. When a subject has "250" short topics, then they could all be defined within a very long list page, as 250 more terms related to the list subject. In that manner, when readers are redirected to "List of terms..." then they can be expected to read through the list for their items of interest. As each topic is expanded (as more than 1 line), it can be described within a section of another article, and then the redirect can be re-redirected to point there, instead, as "Article#Topic name". Anyway, having a generalized list allows topics to start there, and later, they can be expanded within other articles, rather than have a 1-line article about "nibmeister" (or such). For example, perhaps there are 250 semi-notable (newsworthy) pen brandnames or pen models or pen-ink techniques which could be alphabetized into the long list, but not (yet) qualify as highly notable topics to be allowed separate articles. This would be similar to a list of semi-famous diamonds and stone cuts, but not yet as famous as the Eureka diamond or Hope Diamond or "square cut" etc. In that manner, WP can contain some extra detailed information, about numerous pen-and-ink topics, without having tons of tiny articles subjected to protracted debates. However, beware the list being used to advertise any brand or model of ink pen: only notable (news-worthy) topics or items should be in the list. -Wikid77 13:38, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
