Futility
[edit]What's the purpose of this article? It's never going to be anywhere near complete. Some towns have more pubs then there are listed here! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Risc Terilia (talk • contribs) 12:07, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. Perhaps this article should be 'List of Notable Pubs in the UK' - the criteria being whether the pub is noted due to the renown of people associated with it (eg. The Blind Beggar) or anything it is historically attributed to or anything it lays claim to (eg. oldest pub in the country, smallest pub, etc.)? RioVerde (talk) 12:10, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, it would be wise to make it "bluelink only", so each entry has to meet the usual test of notability, which can be tested at AfD if necessary. I suggest we immediately relegate the Isle of Wight list to this talk page, so bluelinked pubs can then be added back as and when articles are created. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:59, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- I've made a start on your suggestion above and have begun to source references for East Anglia. I'll stick to the "bluelink" pubs as you state unless I can see any other notable reason for inclusion. I'll leave deletion decisions (eg. IOW, et al) to the experts... - Concur:- No article = No inclusion - Arjayay (talk) 22:27, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Cross Keys
[edit]The Cross Keys reference sounds a bit dodgy to me. There are many JD Whetherspoons pubs that are within disused churches (eg in Edinburgh), so I don't understand how the Cross Keys at Handsworth can be the only pub built on holy ground.
Pub Task Force
[edit]Anyone interesting in working for a while on improving the pub articles? Sorting out the stubs. Organising the categories. Creating a Pub InfoBox. Drawing up some kind of notability guideline, and checking that pub articles are meeting the guidelines. Drawing up a Style guideline. Working on the editing of the main articles - Public house,List of public houses in the United Kingdom, Bar (establishment), etc. Considering how to integrate all the drinking establishments around the globe. Perhaps create a new parent article: Drinking establishment. I've started working on the pub articles, but I would really like to work with other people to bounce ideas and keep within consensus. Check in at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Beer#Pub_Task_Force, or respond here or drop a message on my talkpage. Cheers! SilkTork *YES! 18:50, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Isle of Wight
[edit]This article seems to list more pubs on the Isle of Wight than in London.
Is there not some kind of notability test for inclusion in this list? For example, the pub in question having it's own article? If people are just going to cut an paste the results of a Google search for 'pub' for particular counties, then the list will be ridiculously long, unwieldy, and frankly pointless. Catsmeat (talk) 13:38, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
- agreed - see comments under "Futility" above. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:00, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Table
[edit]An editor has started trying to convert this list into a table, without any prior discussion. I am against this, as it will make the article much longer, with large amounts of white-space, making viewing on a phone extremely tedious, and unlike sortable tables for some statistics, serves no obvious purpose. - Arjayay (talk) 14:25, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
- Agreed. Edwardx (talk) 14:53, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
