Don't refactor this table please
[edit]Hi. There is a module in Coursera: Data Science Capstone, which relies on this table. It is simplest when the table is listed as is, and many many students have made ipython calls (using pandas read_html() ) to scrape this table. When you change the table, it breaks all their ipython notebooks! please consider to leave as is for now. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eddyholland (talk • contribs) 18:28, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- All Canadian postal code tables are formatted as grids. By changing one of them to a table, you have broken an established convention for this series of pages just to satisfy this one project. Please ask your project to work with the grid version of these articles. -- Denelson83 00:16, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Oliver, Oliver, never before has a boy wanted M0R...
[edit]Oh dear... I guess postcode M1A is missing in action - just like Doug Ford these days?
In any case, this bit looks a bit "off":
- Note: There are no rural FSAs in Toronto, hence no postal codes should start with M0. However, the postal code M0R 8T0 is assigned to an Amazon warehouse in Mississauga, and the postal code M0R 2A2 is used for the Gateway postal facility in Mississauga, suggesting that Canada Post may have reserved the M0 FSA for high volume addresses.
The physical address attached to M0R 1T0, M0R 8T0 and the like is *not* Amazon's facility, it's 4567 Dixie Road, Mississauga. That puts it in the same building as M7R, ie:
- M7R
- Mississauga
- Canada Post Gateway Processing Centre
- (Enclave of L4W)
The M0R address appears on a pre-paid mailing sticker, supplied to a consumer by a vendor such as The Shopping Channel (M0R 1T0), Amazon (M0R 8T0) or Bell Canada (M0R ??0 - not legible?). These function a bit like Business Reply Mail, but for trackable parcels, and are used mostly by mail-order houses for merchandise returns. There are other "commercial returns" postcodes for other Canada Post facilities (for instance, T0W for the Calgary Mail Processing Plant) but I see no sign that anything M0R points to anywhere other than 4567 Dixie Road. That gives an address in the format:
- GATEWAY COMMERCIAL RETURNS
- (original vendor name)
- 4567 DIXIE ROAD
- MISSISSAUGA ON M0R ??0
The pattern of using an entire "rural" FSA for something equivalent to a "merchandise return label" (US) as "commercial returns" seems to hold for other Canadian cities, such as Calgary. These aren't rural; they're the main Canada Post station for a large city, postage due.
The claim "Canada Post may have reserved the M0 FSA for high volume addresses" is unsourced and fairly speculative. Nonetheless, M0R and T0W are in the "rural FSA" range and are being used for special purposes which are not rural in nature.
The claim "Postal codes beginning with M are located within the city of Toronto in the province of Ontario." is also incorrect as Gateway isn't in Toronto. It's in Mississauga.
So how to re-word this?

- Postal codes beginning with M (except M0R and M7R) are located within the city of Toronto in the province of Ontario.
and:
- Note: There are no rural FSAs in Toronto, hence no postal codes should start with M0. However, the postal code M0R is assigned to the Gateway postal facility in Mississauga, where it is used primarily for commercial returns of mail-order merchandise or equipment. Canada Post may have reserved the M0 FSA for high volume addresses.
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Sennecaster (What now?) 18:03, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
