[edit]I have substantially increased the number of towns, hamlets, villages and neighborhoods listed in this list. I did not include nature sites. I found several that had articles on Wikipedia already but were not listed, so I listed them.--Filll 16:26, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Every time I make a stub on the red links here I get someone questioning notability (e.g. Lane End, Pondwell, Hale Common). Some of these places are suburbs of larger places (Hunny Hill or Seagrove Bay)or are miniscule - such as the aptly named Five Houses or Marks Corner. Should we delete the outstanding red links?--Streona (talk) 23:31, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- My personal view is that it comes down to how much one could possibly say about a particular place. If an article is never likely to progress beyond stub-size, there's probably not much point to it; If an article cannot (by consensus) be expanded beyond a stub then it should probably be merged into an appropriate article (like Lane End -> Bembridge). I deliberately use the word "probably" as there will always be exceptions - this would prove more tricky with separate settlements (even if they are tiny) so it would probably be worth leaving places like Five Houses.
- When does a distinct community become a suburb? That's the important question, but I would err on the side of inclusion initially, then merging if deemed appropriate. I'd suggest the current redlinks should be turned into redirects if there's an article for another appropriate settlement, otherwise that they're marked as 'needed' by WikiProject Wight. Typo
[edit]The word Postal is mis-spelled in the "Postal Code" column. 76.102.31.185 (talk) 05:49, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Cowes and East Cowes
[edit]They are definely separate towns! Ref Wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowes. Richard Smout, head of the IoW Records Office Richard.Smout@IOW.gov.uk, will confirm this. 76.102.31.185 (talk) 00:47, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
