Unreliable Information

[edit]

Although this new page is very good the information from that website GENUKI is not, I dont know where they get their facts and dates from, but they completley unsourced and totally unreliable. If we want this page to be accurate, then we need to be working off the Salford Diocesan Almanac, which is accurate

RexGregorian, I understand your issues with regards to GENUKI as they operate in the same vein as WP. I am adding alternate refs were possible and would appreciate any assistance in finding more concrete alternatives (Anthony of the Desert (talk) 02:21, 3 December 2008 (UTC)).[reply]
I dont know if you have a copy of the 2009 Salford Diocesan Almanac, but there is a directory in there detailing the histories of all the churches and chapels which have either closed or changed their names. Now this is completley accurate as I personally spent half of this year researching and compiling it from contemporary archive sources, so thats a good place to start as regards the defunct churches.
As for the the historical dates of the current churches the 2009 issue contains years of foundations and openings under each entry, but little more and this is something which I intend to research and correct for next years issue, but even the dates currently included in this area are more reliable that the material of GENUKI, that site also has a problem in that they are taking a lot of their material from Fr Bolton's book, which the modern diocesan historians dont take terribly seriously. He was asked by Bishop Marshall in 1950 to write some kind of a History of the Diocese for the centenary, but there were no archives for him to work off, so he wrote to each church and asked the resident Priest to put together a few lines on the history of the church, so what we ended up with was a compilation of very unreliable hearsay.
I would be happy to work together to build up a detailed and accurate guide to the Diocese on Wiki.
Thats great news. I'm going to go down to the CTS tommorow and see weather they have the last edition in and use that for the ref's. My intention is that once this list is completed, I can that produce articles on individual churches of note. Many thanks for you help. I trust you have been able to obtain a copy of the 2009 almanac and it is of use. (RexGregorian (talk) 18:36, 10 December 2008 (UTC)).[reply]
I have and all entries have been sourced from the latest edition and where applicable, cross-referenced from other source material (Anthony of the Desert (talk) 07:31, 21 December 2008 (UTC)).[reply]

Holy Family, Oarwin

[edit]

I personally have never heard of Oarwin as a district of Blackburn, although its possible its an old local name, but in context with The Holy Family, Blackburn I'm not sure I see where the location has been sourced from. The Holy Family is the name given to the Team Parish which serves the two churches of St Teresa at Intack and St Joseph at Audley and previously St Anthony at Shadsworth prior to its closure earlier this year. The Priests who serve the Team Parish reside at Audley, we have never had a church at Oarwin and there is no reference to my knowledge to the place anywhere in the almanac.
