SHANDUR-HUNDARUP NATIONAL PARK
BACKGROUND: Valleys: Shandur National Parks consist of following valleys. 1. Hundrep Nala 2. Bha Nala 3. Imbalish Nala 4. Surung Bar Nala 5. Khusar Nala 3. Lang Nala Total Area The total area of Shandur National Park is 518 Sq/Km. Announcements: Establishment of Shandur National Park was notified on 04-12-1993 and it spreads from Matoti Bridge Phander to Shandur Top. CURRENT ISSUES: Pros:
Cons: In the last 26 years The department of wildlife neither released the map of Hundrep National Park nor management plan. Due to which delay in the construction of park. Government is arranging meeting with peoples who have no influence/reputation in area nor they are talking to notables who are really affecting by making Hundrep National Park. Department of wild life do not touch the peoples who may convince locals regarding the benefits of parks in real means. air pollution, climate change, wild life reservations, adjacent development, jobs, tourist attraction, reservation of fauna and flora
To and against:
On 21-04-2021 a meeting was held at Commissioner office Gilgit in which some notables were called to discuss the establishment of Shandur National Park. None of the people in meeting were belongs to Shandur and Shandur Top. It is to mention that Khan Akbar Khan ex-member district council and leader Muslim League (Q) is not belongs to the area of Hundrep National Park, he resident of Teru.
On 20-04-2021 Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed met with the locals of Hundarup and discussed the issues of Hundarup National Park. The opposition of Hundarup Park tells him that the Hundarup Park is never in benefit of local people. The only way of their income is to grazing cattle if Hundrep Parks were made all their animals are eaten by wild animals. On this Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed showed his solidarity with them and assure them that he would arise voices for them in GB Assembley.
On 17-04-2017 in a chair of Khan Akbar Khan a meeting was held at local hotel of Gulagmali in which he ask public 60/70 about their opinion. Everyone there opposed the establishment of National Park. Khan Akbar Khan has a strong Political influence from Barsat to Teru but against those who were in favor of National Park.
Way Forward:
Community involvement during establishment of protected areas is another important factor concerning these issues.Need of the local population of the area are not considered properly before establishment of protected areas in Pakistan. Resident of periphery of protected areas play important role in effecting conservations strategies. The alternative income must be provided to locals of Ghizer because they are dependent upon natural resource for their livelihood. Priority must be given to locals while giving jobs for protecting National Park.z For this purpose local community must be benefited from development activities related to areas. Moreover, local communities participations in management activities can also enhance the viability of protected areas. Therefore, more positive results can be achieved through effective policy related to community involvement. Hundrep National Park should be established after taking the local community into confidence as well as addressing their reservations on the issue otherwise, protest and agitation by the natives is obvious which may also cause hindrance in implementation of the proposed park .
Improved list
[edit]I have improved the list with a new layout. I also introduced references which were previously absent and added additional information like 'year of declaration', 'total area', IUCN categories and WDPA profiles. Farjad0322 (talk|contribs) 13:53, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
