The "Plain stone cross" with which the memorial is described, albeit cited to Niklaus Pevsner, does not apply to the war memorial as made to Moore's designs. Moore's original memorial was an ornate stone crucifix, with carved figures, but it was demolished and replaced by the present "Plain stone cross" (1960) after the original became dilapidated and dangerous.
