[edit]Could somebody put Tapperhet I Fält and the Order of the Sword under Sweden? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.210.224.224 (talk) 20:22, 1 May 2007 (UTC).
Changed "Nazi Germany" to "Third Reich"
[edit]The term "Nazi Germany" is colloquial speech and doesn't exist as such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.191.142.47 (talk) 18:32, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
United States
[edit]OK, so every other country manages to do ok with a short list of their highest military honors and a {{seealso}}. Why does the US need an all-inclusive table? --Mûĸĸâĸûĸâĸû (blah?) 06:31, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Rename to include civilian honors?
[edit]Virtually all the linked per-country articles/categories include civilian honors, and some of the individual awards listed here are also non-military. Thoughts on renaming to reflect the article's actual scope? Possible names include:
- List of orders, decorations, and medals by country
- List of orders, decorations, and medals
- Lists of orders, decorations, and medals by country
- Lists of orders, decorations, and medals
I would lean somewhat towards #1. #2 is a bit more concise, and avoids the awkwardness of implicitly counting Ancient Rome as a "country", but also a bit less precise. 3 and 4 reflect the fact that this article is mostly a WP:LISTOFLISTS.
The alternative of changing the article's content to reflect the current title would be a lot more work, and would involve fighting against the scheme used for almost all of the relevant categories and per-country articles, which tend to combine civilian and military orders/decorations/medals. Actually, after doing a cleanup pass through the article, I'm leaning more toward #3. This really is more a list of lists of awards rather than a list of awards. Colin M (talk) 18:04, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
One other option that just occurred to me would be to simply use the phrase "state awards" over the prolix "orders, decorations and medals". It has the dual benefit of being more concise, and yet also more precisely specifying the scope of the article by the addition of the word "state". The Newbery Medal is a medal, but would not be included in any of the lists linked in this article, because it's awarded by a private organization, rather than being a state medal. This would give us the new raft of options:
However, we have to consider consistency with the category tree Category:Orders, decorations, and medals and the 123 articles with titles of the form "Orders, decorations, and medals of X". Renaming those articles would be straightforward, and, I think, beneficial for the same reasons as for this article (much more concise, and more precise). The category tree is a bit more hairy though, as it currently doesn't map directly to the concept of state awards, containing as it does subcats like Category:Christian orders, decorations, and medals, and Category:Medals (which in turn contains Olympic medals, devotional medals, etc.).
