Quality and relevance/importance of content: delete overblown content, keep only table format

[edit]

I didn't start this article, I'm merely trying to edit it into a useful and true to facts form as I think it is still blown out of proportion and uselessly detailed. In this process I found that the information in the news articles given as references are often blurry, not specific enough, others go into minute details the are uselessly included in this wiki article.

The migration flux is continuous and an article trying to list capsized vessels (and a series of articles on capsized vessels) gives the false impression that we know about every sunken boat. It is like trying to list every skirmish following the Arab Spring with detailed information.

I suggest maintaining a list in a table format with very short description (if available) in a Details column. Anyone wishing to know more can follow the links in References section.Rob.HUN (talk) 05:06, 8 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Table

[edit]

Although the table does not list every capsized boat (and it probably will never be able to), I think a column of "Rescued" people would make it more CLEAR how many lives are lost! For example for the data set "August 11 off Libya 120 50/50+ ", how many survived? If there were 120 people of which 50 are dead and 50+ missing, did any of the 120 make it? 151.136.147.71 (talk) 06:52, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is difficult to tell with an accident such as a migrant boat capsizing. However I am attempting to address this issue currently, starting with my new table for pre-2015 incidents. Regards, Buttons0603 | talk to me | 00:46, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Additional incidents

[edit]

I have been working on general Incidents in the German WP. You can find a long row of migrant incidents with quotations (many of them in English) on Liste bedeutender Seeunfälle seit 2015. All the best--5glogger (talk) 04:30, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why only up through 2015?

[edit]

I'm kinda confused as to why this article only lists events up through 2015. Wouldn't it make more sense to have it be a continually updated list going past 2015 (i.e. including 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, etc)?
