Note: For context, for future discussions, here in the discussion between me and another user, debating what lesbian anime characters should be added to the then "List of lesbian characters in anime", back in 2021: Talk:List of lesbian characters in anime/Archive 1. I have since smoothed things over with them, and realize I was a bit hardnosed and could have handled that conversation better, but I thought this might help.--Historyday01 (talk) 02:49, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting the article

[edit]

Building off the discussion on the Talk:List of fictional lesbian characters page, @Pyxis Solitary and @Onetwothreeip, do you have any suggestions for splitting this article, other than just of the existing categories I've created by years? This article is shorter than the List of lesbian characters in anime page, but it seems it should be split, with the longest section for shows in the 2010s. The content is really not that voluminous. Remove the Background section and it's a straightforward, simple, small list. I would reduce the Background section and locate it following the last table; after all, it's a list, not an "article". P.S. Good work! Pyxis Solitary (yak). L not Q. 07:16, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pyxis Solitary, that is a good suggestion! I'll think about that when I do some editing tomorrow.

Characters who are queer but not necessarily lesbian

[edit]

Not all of the characters listed here are explicitly stated to be lesbian, but could be bisexual or, given that many of them are not human, some sort of other thing that we've never heard of (I know this is an academic list and not a fan list, but it's still important not to make assumptions). I suggest splitting off another article: "List of queer female characters in animation", which would have a redirect at the top to [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], and [6]. 2601:5C7:8300:EF70:0:ECE1:40A2:F197 (talk) 02:34, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Anonymous 03:34 UTC[reply]

Hmm. I get what you are saying, but I think having a list like that would confuse too many people, as it would inevitably include characters from this list, the bisexual, pansexual, trans, asexual, and aromantic characters pages. Are there any characters you are specifically thinking of? --Historyday01 (talk) 03:39, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't watch all of these shows, but the ones I was thinking of are from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. And some, like from 3Below: Tales of Arcadia, jumped out at me as explicitly saying that all we have to go on is one romance. 2601:5C7:8300:EF70:0:ECE1:40A2:F197 (talk) 16:10, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, with 3 Below, that is true, but I think that's unfortunately the result of the fact that Shannon doesn't appear in that many episodes, being that she is mostly a background character. From my understanding, Adora/Catra are basically confirmed as lesbians, with the same arguably for Netossa and Spinnerella, or even Scorpia and Perfuma, but I'm not as sure about Huntara, as I think that is more implied than anything else... In any case, the entries on the page as a whole probably need to be updated, but its a long process, as I'm still going through all the ones on the Lists of animated series with LGBT characters, and I've only done up to 2002, but when I get to She-Ra and 3-Below, I'll look at each of those entries, and change them accordingly, then updating the entries here. Thanks. The first sentence in the entry for Catradora, about not knowing how to express their feelings... Where was this said? I looked at both of the sources in that entry, and it says nothing about their feelings for each other before the events of the series. If this was discussed somewhere, I'd love to hear it, but I think this is just an interpretation, all we really know is what's said in the last two episodes.73.251.101.5 (talk) 17:46, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, you have a point. My guess is that line was added a while ago and no one has challenged it until now, which is why its there? I wouldn't mind removing it (I did so), as I think its quite the opposite, as they DO express their feelings toward each other. Historyday01 (talk) 02:36, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
