Notes

[edit]

Some decisions need to be made about aggregating hotels. Sands Cotai is not a hotel, it is a resort with four entirely separate hotels attached. This gets worse when you have one of those hotels (Sheraton) then listen on its own, again, further down the list. Basically we should be listing individual hotels, not resorts with multiple brands from different companies in separate towers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caspar esq. (talkcontribs) 22:10, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This list has some contradictions versus the Wikipedia entry for the hotel. For example, the Wikipedia entry for the MGM Grand Las Vegas says it is the second largest hotel in the world with 6,852 rooms. This list says it is the largest hotel in the world with 7,372 rooms. One page has to be wrong. Wickorama (talk) 20:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orlando has at least 3 other hotels of 1,400 or more. Rosens Shingle Creek, Orlando Hilton and Marriott Grand Vista. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.136.221.111 (talk) 00:51, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

erhaps you would like to talk about the number one hotel, to make the article more interesting.--Cubs197 (talk) 05:22, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the Grand Sierra in Reno with 1995 rooms not on the list? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 18.111.39.162 (talk) 23:25, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This list of hotels is seriously lacking. There are at least a dozen hotels in Nevada in Reno, Sparks, and Laughlin missing. I know there a bunch of hotels in Cancun now that have over 1000 rooms. I am not familiar with the resorts in Asia or Australia, but I assume that many of them are missing. There are also a lot of hotels in the large Asian cities that are over 1000 rooms. Mexico city has some massive hotels especially near the Virgin of Guadalupe cathedral. I would consider clipping this article to hotels over 3000 rooms (which are much easier to keep track of). As an alternative hotels over 2000 rooms. It kind of leaves Europe out of it. As far as I know they do not have a hotel over 2000 rooms in all of Europe.Pacomartin (talk) 21:19, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs auto-ranking

[edit]

I have just removed the hotel that was listed in fourth place, an abandoned project in Dubai. This puts all the rankings out. I don't have time to make 150 odd adjustments, especially as most of them would become wrong the next time the list changes. Is there an auto ranking feature that can be used? Mowsbury (talk) 00:15, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Auto-ranking seems like a good idea. And while we're on the subject, when two or more hotels tie with the same number of rooms, I assume they share that ranking, which is not currently happening on much of this list. Is it also safe to assume that ties cause subsequent ranks to be skipped? For example, if two hotels of 2,900 rooms each share 10th place, should the next hotel in the sequence be listed in 11th place, or 12th place? My gut tells me the latter, but this is not currently reflected in much of the ranking. --AlikaAlex 15:53, 15 March 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alikaalex (talkcontribs)

Of course the latter. For example, if two are tied at 1st spot, the next is 3rd because there are two larger ones. Though, if you rank only the number of rooms, then it would be the earlier choice. But this is a list of hotels, not room counts. 85.217.36.50 (talk) 21:33, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked about auto-ranking on the help page for sorting, and apparently there's no auto-ranking available. The suggestion was to remove the current rank column, and place entries in alphabetical order. This would make adding new entries a simple task. Then the entries could be sorted by room count by clicking the column heading. I'll do this when i have time to spare. Julianhall (talk) 11:03, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2014JAN17 - Four ranks (123-126, 168) correspond to two hotels each. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jsusky (talkcontribs) 20:51, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hotel floors

[edit]

The wikipedia articles are inconsistent in # of floors. It appears the hotel has 2 sides, one with 61 floors, and the other with 51 floors. Changing it to 61 and adding another reference if I can find one. --Adam00 (talk) 03:04, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It might be a good idea for someone to confirm the height and floors of all of these properties. Seems to be inconsistent information even within Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adam00 (talkcontribs) 03:05, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When is number 1 not number 1

[edit]

As long as the number 1 hotel here is really 4 hotels, how does it count as the number 1? This needs to be sourced. I'm appalled by the fact that there are not references for every entry. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:17, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it 2 hotels? is it 4 hotels? How many check in desks are there? If seems like it should come down to whether or not they are managed as a single unit or not. The Venetian and Palazzo are managed together, are they not?--RadioFan (talk) 16:08, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And the room count is there as 8108, the same number is in the Venetian article. But when I look at Venetian & Palazzo infoboxes, I get 4,049 + 3,068 = 7,117 total. So something is not right. 85.217.36.50 (talk) 21:28, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong, number 4,049 is number of suites, not hotel rooms. The actuak number of hotel rooms of The Venetian is 4,059, so 4,059 + 3,068 = 7,127. If suites and rooms in The Venetian are included, will be 8,108, but if 8,108 + 3,068 = will be 11,176. So be largest in world or not. Roif456 (talk) 08:14, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disney World resorts

[edit]

I'm not sure that this resort belongs on the list. They are considered separate resorts (Disney's All-Star Sports Resort, Disney's All-Star Movies Resort, Disney's All-Star Music Resort). Any objections to removing it?--RadioFan (talk) 16:06, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Since there has been no objection in nearly 2 months, this entry has been removed. Moving on to Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. This entry is also not appropriate for the list. While both properties are owned by the same company and are adjacent to one another, they are operated separately and under different brand names (Sheraton vs. Westin). Any objection to removeing Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort from the list?--RadioFan (talk) 13:56, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No objection - in fact no justification was provided to insert it in the first place (as in a reliable source specifically counting those 3 resorts as one (while at the same time counting the other resorts in the same Disney location as separate entities. Loginnigol (talk) 19:04, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And to make matters worse the resorts were already individually listed - so that thing was an illegit duplicate entry. Loginnigol (talk) 19:14, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Check figures for Venetian + Palazzo

[edit]

I do not belive that the combined number of rooms of Palazzo and Venetian aggregate above 8000! This fact needs to be verified as technically this may dislodge it from the top which is a huge difference — Preceding unsigned comment added by Perfection161 (talkcontribs) 19:12, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you can combine those two hotels together making it the world largest hotel. Eventhough they belong to the same company they are still completely different hotels.

City: Paradise?

[edit]

Why are the majority of Vegas hotels listed as located in the city 'Paradise'? Even if this is correct, there should be a link or note explaining this nomenclature. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.158.57.66 (talk) 13:31, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Sirenis La Salina hotel in Varadero, Cuba has 1,035 rooms arranged in around 40 3-story bungalows. I think that the hotel was renamed "Memories of Varadero" (I thought Sirenis La Salina, which means Siren of the Sea, was a much better name). I know this because I stayed there for the last 2 weeks of February in 2012. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.49.109.193 (talk) 03:51, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mecca Clock Tower claims not supported

[edit]

I see no citation, either here, or in the linked Wiki article, that supports the claim of 8,000 rooms. Indeed, when I do a web search, I see nothing of the kind. One source says 858 hotel rooms. Even including other towers that are part of Abraj Al Bait, it's not clear how many hotel rooms there are; many of the towers are described as primarily being residential, not hotel. Lacking a citation, I'm removing it.--Larry (talk) 02:45, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The source that largest hotel (Mecca Clock Tower) is definitely false because after i scripted, i noted that date of written is same as Mecca Clock Royal is there but then delete for sometime, then back. Roif456 (talk) 00:12, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What about Cruise Ships?

[edit]

Why aren't there any cruise ships listed on this page? On List of the world's largest cruise ships the largest 55 ships are listed, and every one of them has at least 1,250 staterooms. Its 2,700 for the Allure and the Oasis. They are all floating hotels so they should be listed.Royboymaps (talk) 21:55, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Floating hotels? Do you seriously think that if someone looks an article on the largest hotels they will be impressed with a list of cruise ships? Pedants making a technical point need to take a back seat to editors who want to make useful, readable articles.203.161.10.6 (talk) 05:58, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what you mean, but the ranking is incorrect if cruise ships are left out. According to this list the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel is ranked 124th in the worlds largest hotels, but its not. It should be ranked 179th as there are 55 cruise ships with more rooms. I know the articles have to be usable and readable, but they also have to have the facts right. Acording to the article "Hotel", "A hotel is an establishment that provides lodging paid on a short-term basis. Facilities provided may range from a basic bed and storage for clothing, to luxury features like en-suite bathrooms. Larger hotels may provide additional guest facilities such as a swimming pool, business center, childcare, conference facilities and social function services." That includes cruise ships, they are certainly hotels and should be included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Royboymaps (talkcontribs) 11:01, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Manadalay + Delano + Four Seasons should move to 6th place

[edit]

I checked the fact sheet of Mandalay Bay hotel (link: http://newsroom.mandalaybay.com/mandalay-bay/fact-sheets/mandalay-bay-1/) and the break up of the three units is clearly given as Mandalay Bay - 3211 (Wikipedia article on Mandalay Bay informs 33o9 rooms) Delano - 1117 (same wiki article referred above on Mandalay Bay informs 1120 rooms at Delano though the wiki article on Delano, Vegas is right in terms of no of rooms) Four Seasons - 424 (double checked with the four Seasons Vegas fact sheet link - http://press.fourseasons.com/lasvegas/hotel-facts/) Grand Total = 4752 This will cause Wynn-Encore to move to 7th spot and Luxor to 8th spot (Date ref: 25th Oct 2014)

Clarification of number of rooms at Wynn-Encore their website link: http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/MeetingsAndWeddings/Meetings/ResortFacts)says and I quote "Recognized with more Forbes Travel Guide Five Star awards than any other casino resort in the world, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore offer luxurious accommodations. Wynn features approximately 2,716 hotel rooms and suites and Encore features 2,034." P.S. I wonder why they say approximately... Ranking 54 about the two "Dacheng" may be some mistakes.

[edit]

First, the one "Zhangjiajie Dacheng Shanshui" is certainly not in Hebei, for Zhangjiajie is one of the city in Hunan. Second, though there is a famous Estate in Beijing, Hebei, called "Dacheng International Center," but it's a shopping mall and an apartment, not a hotel. In fact, there are too many companies using the name "Dacheng" and most of them are not related. However, the "Zhangjiajie Dacheng Shanshui" do have a sister hotel in Changsha, Hunan, called "Dacheng International." Quite messy, but surely it should be confirmed and make it clear.JamesAljeksChen (talk) 06:18, 25 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disney's Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter

[edit]

Disney's Port Orleans Resort is 2 hotels, not one. The room number here is the room number for the entire complex, which might not be a fair comparison. At the very least, a note should be added. Kaldari (talk) 22:37, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sheraton Grand Macao counted twice

[edit]

The Sheraton Grand Macao is listed separately (4001 rooms) and also as part of the Sands Cotai Central (6000 rooms). It should only be listed once. If its considered part of Sands Cotai Central (a collection of hotels that are all connected) then the individual listing should be removed, otherwise Sands Cotai Central should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brendannee (talkcontribs) 12:56, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Source of Las Vegas Sands hotels

[edit]

Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Emvionmental Reports and Sands China Annual Reports (AR) show the number of rooms of their hotels. Except for Marina Bay Sands, this arcile counts differently, so those numbers were modified, and the references to the earliest possible source were added. Some details are given below.

(The Venetian Las Vegas) 2004 LVS AR states "We opened the first phase of the Venetian Casino Resort in May 1999, which originally consisted of 3,036 suites though the number of suites was reduced over time to 3,014 based on renovations and remodeling. The Venezia tower, a 1,013 hotel suite expansion of the Venetian Casino Resort, was completed and opened for business on June 26, 2003. The Venetian Casino Resort now includes a total of 4,027 suites." 2007 AR states "The Palazzo has a 50-floor luxury hotel tower with 3,066 suites." 2012 AR states "The Venetian Las Vegas has 4,028 suites situated in a 3,015-suite, 35-story three-winged tower rising above the casino and the adjoining 1,013-suite, 12-story Venezia tower" and "The Palazzo has a 50-floor luxury hotel tower with 3,064 suites." The total of rooms changed to 4,027 in 2004 and to 7,093 in 2007, and has been 7,092 since 2012.

(Macao properties) For The Venetian Macao, all Sands China ARs count 2,905, while this article counts 3,000. For The Pasisian Macao, ARs count 2,951 in 2016, 2,805 in 2017, and 2,541 in 2018, while this article count 3,000. For Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel, Cotai Central, Sands China ARs count 3,968 since 2015, while the hotel site now counts 4,001. This discrepancy is puzzling.

(Marina Bay Sands) For Marina Bay Sands, LSV ARs show only approximate numbers, but the 2016 and 2018 versions of LSV Environmental Report show the exact number, 2,561. --Tokei139 (talk) 14:49, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Source of MGM Resorts International hotels

[edit]

Resorts International's newsroom provides each hotel's fact sheet, which shows the number of rooms. Their 2018 Annual Report shows those numbers, too. For 8 hotels, the two sources show the same number, which seems credible. For 7 hotels (ARIA, Vdara, Mandalay Bay, Delano, Excalibur, The Mirage, and New York-New York) among them, the same number appears on this article. For the remaining Bellagio, MGM sources count 3,933, but this article counts 3,950. The latter was modified. --Tokei139 (talk) 11:43, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
