1371 Act/Declaration

[edit]

Do we have the exact wording of the 1371 Act? We may be straying into orginal research, or at least lack of citations. PatGallacher (talk) 14:26, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This site - http://www.wargs.com/essays/succession/strathearn.html - appears to have the Latin text.

I have updated the main page re this - the documents are at http://www.rps.ac.uk/ . The 1371 "Act" wasn't an Act but rather a declaration that John was the heir. The further heirs were in an Act of 1373.

Possible errors

[edit]

I've finally completed this list up to 1707, but I'm not certain if I've got Scotland's constitutional position under the Protectorate (especially after Oliver Cromwell's death) right, and I'm not absolutely sure about precisely when William and Mary acceded in Scotland either. I'd just been using information in other wikipedia articles. Opera hat (talk) 12:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Arran

[edit]

Was the third Earl of Arran still considered the heir presumptive during the time when he was under attainder (either 1579-1585 or 1581-1585)? If not, who was? From what I can gather, his younger brothers were both under attainder at the same time, so maybe it was his nephew the Earl of Huntly? john k (talk) 03:59, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:List of heirs apparent and presumptive to the British throne which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 01:01, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Electress Sophia

[edit]

Was she ever heiress presumptive to the Scottish throne? The Act of Settlement 1701 was passed by the English Parliament and did not apply in Scotland. The Scottish Parliament passed the Act of Security 1704 full text. I therefore propose to remove Sophia from this page and say that there was no-one in the line of succession after Anne from the death of her last surviving child until the Union. I think you're right and have made the change. Celia Homeford (talk) 14:54, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Should be heirs-apparent & heirs-presumptive

[edit]

This page should be renamed List of heirs-apparent and heirs-presumptive to the Scottish throne, as legally the 'heir' is the monarch. GoodDay (talk) 18:21, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
