Hogsmeade - Should be removed?
[edit]Hogsmeade isn't really a city, it's more of a village or maybe a small town. But more importantly, it's not independent! In the Harry Potter world, the magical folk usually live along side us non magical people ("muggles") in the same cities and towns that we do. They use their magic to hide their presence from us, but really they could be right next door. The magical folk also (at least in Britain) have a separate government, the Ministry of Magic, who's laws govern all the magic users in the land, regardless of weither they are in a "muggle" part of London or in the halls of the great magical school Hogwarts.
Hogsmeade is special because it's the only settlement in the UK that is strictly for magic users. Rather then using magic to hide themselves within a "muggle" city or town, they simple hide the whole town itself, and only magical folk know that it exists. However, it is still governed by the laws of the Ministry of Magic, and therefore can't really be considered an independent city state. It's inhabitants are part of the same "hidden nation" that the rest of the magical folk of the UK are part of. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.235.104.204 (talk) 01:46, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Removing reference
[edit]In the New New York line, it mentions Futurama. While there is a city called that iin the show and most of the series is based in that location, it isn't an independent nation but part of a single country spanning the entire planet. I'll keep the other names mentioned because I know nothing about them, but the Futurama reference is going.
I removed Gondor; Gondor is a feudal kingdom, as Denethor could call upon the nobles of Dol Amroth, Lebennin, etc. The Steward doesn't seem to have much authority outside his capital at Minas Tirith, but that is not uncommon in a failing territorial state. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.130.97.155 (talk) 01:49, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Bye Bye Many D.C citys
[edit]Accocrding to what I know Gotham is a part of the U.S.A. I am therefore deleting Gotham from the list, anyone who disagrees can put it back on the list, then write to me, at my talk page, about why Gotham is a city-state. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 04:20, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
I've just noticed that Metropolis appeared in the list, I believe that is also in the U.S, thus bye bye to that as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Series premiere (remake) (talk • contribs) 05:04, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
I have removed Coast City, it's shown to be part of the U.S.A, more specifically, part of the state of California Series premiere (remake) (talk) 05:13, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Again another U.S city is mistakenly in this list, this time Central City. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 05:15, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
I've merged two sections into one because I decided it works better this way Series premiere (remake) (talk) 05:33, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
More American Infiltrations
[edit]This is a list of fictional city-states, not fictional American towns, I will remove Retroville which appears to be part of either Texas or Colorado. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 05:23, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Need more fictional city-states
[edit]We need more fictional city-states, and please remember the definition of city-state before adding stuff. I've so far added Superbia and have removed Gotham, Metropolis, Central City, Retroville and another city I forgot the name of. So please, add more city-states but remember the definition before adding a name in. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 05:31, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Gotham, Metropolis and Central City are not city-states. Try reading the article on City-States for an actual definition before adding every fictional city you can think of. I am adding the Free City of Greyhawk, though. Nutiketaiel (talk) 19:20, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Remove Hogsmeade
[edit]I guess people forgot the message I left ages ago, because like the unregistered guy said, Hogsmeade is not a city-state. When did Hogsmeade get added to this list anyway? Oh well, I'm eliminating it. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 07:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
LOTR
[edit]Rohan is not a city-state, it's a massive country filled mostly with grass, it's people use horses to get from place to place & it still takes them hours at full speed. I will remove it & check the other LOTR reference. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 07:06, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
I checked Lothlórien out, turns out it's the forest I remember from that 1st movie. Well now I know the name.Series premiere (remake) (talk) 07:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Title
[edit]This page is titled "Fictional City-States in LITERATURE," so why all the video game references? These either need to be taken out, or the page needs to be renamed. 67.11.26.153 (talk) 02:00, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Heck, most of the entries are non-literature. This article needs a new name. 67.11.26.153 (talk) 02:04, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Aren't these game of thrones towns city-states? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.218.251.44 (talk) 14:34, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
