[edit]Please come here to discuss the validity of any of these clubs. Some clubs' history is complicated and whether the club is defunct or simply renamed is up to debate. The clubs in Chorley, Runcorn and Blackpool are prime examples.
Toronto?
[edit]Surely Toronto Wolfpack belong in this list somewhere - I guess a new country header for Canada would be required (under which it could also be mentioned that Ottawa Aces were scheduled to join the RFL pyramid pre-Coronavirus pandemic but never played a game) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrfranco (talk • contribs) 13:17, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
Australian Clubs
[edit]- Thanks for opening this up to discussion. I'll kick-off discussion of the Australian clubs. I think for Australia this is a fair definition of 'defunct': "have played first grade RL but do not currently exist in any recognised level." NSWRL Premier League and the Junior Representative competitions in NSW are clearly a 'recognised level' (especially NSWRL PL which is probably the third best RL competition in the world). Clearly, defunct status doesn't include Illawarra Steelers, or Newtown. The changes I would make would be to remove University from the list - they have existed continuously for 85 years. However, whether we consider the NSW Tertiary RL competition to be 'recognised' is another question. Also, I would call the 1908 - 1909 Newcastle club, 'Newcastle Rebels'. You also need to include the clubs that folded as a result of the Super League war and subsequent 'peace deal'. These were 'Western Reds', 'Hunter Mariners', 'South Queensland Crushers' - they all have pages at varying levels of development.

- Should be "List of defunct rugby league teams" not clubs - Norths no longer field a team in the NRL, but the club still exists. Might be easier to classify.
- As another thought, you should probably also think about the Brisbane RL clubs that have folded such as Fortitude Valley Diehards, Past Brothers, Western Suburbs, etc. -- User:CumberlandsAshes81 25 August 2006.
Northern Rugby Football Union
[edit]Is there a reason why the clubs listed are in this section? None of the clubs listed joined during the era of the Northern Rugby Football Union? Shouldn't the table be the RFL or Northern RFL? Rtande (talk) 05:42, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
How to link to this?
[edit]Which other article /articles could or should link to this one? In essence isn't it a part of the history of rugby league?
Citations and sources are needed
[edit]Please be sure that all additions to the List of defunct rugby league clubs are verifiable. Any new items added to the article should have inline citations for each claim made, unless the addition is merely a bluelink to an existing article. Additional claims, beyond the mere appearance of a (notable, bluelinked) defunct rugby club in this list, should be cited per WP:V.
As a courtesy to editors who may have added many claims previously, before Wikipedia citation policy is what it is today, some of the existing unsourced claims have been tagged [citation needed] to allow some time for sources to be added. Cheers. N2e (talk) 13:39, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
