[edit]Nice work Melicans. ....and good luck protecting the song articles from getting listy again, but I will do what I can to help keep them undercontrol. --Merbabu (talk) 04:52, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you Merbabu; it still needs a great deal of work, particularily from T downwards, but hopefully this list will be filled in over time as opposed to the individual articles. MelicansMatkin (talk) 05:21, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Note
[edit]I have to say that I'm quite pleased so many people who have added covers have done so here instead of on the song articles. It looks like the idea of keeping those free from that clutter is working. MelicansMatkin (talk) 18:27, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
WHOAAA!
[edit]This is such a great article! Congratulations everyone editing this. Suede67 (talk) 00:29, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- heh, thanks. It took a lot of work, but there's still lots to go (mostly sourcing). MelicansMatkin (talk) 00:33, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Radiohead covered SBS
[edit]I found a rare live cover radiohead did of Sunday Bloody Sunday. It can be heard here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxC5Pijbh0w Is that enough to be put on the list? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fuff24 (talk • contribs) 15:17, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
NLOTH covers
[edit]The Vitamin String Quartet released a tribute album to NLOTH with seven of the songs from the album. I've only seen it at the iTunes Store [1] (not even on the quartet's website) but I think this would be good to add to this list. –Dream out loud (talk) 02:35, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Good catch; adding the information in now. I'll work on more substantial song descriptions shortly. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 02:43, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Song Descriptions
[edit]Added descriptions for Unknown Caller, Moment of Surrender and Magnificant. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/25328725/u2_break_down_no_line_on_the_horizon is my reference for Caller and http://www.atu2.com/news/review-of-no-line-on-the-horizon-track-by-track.html for Moment. I took the piece about Magnificant from its Wiki article. --CrazyTonight (talk) 23:13, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Babies Go U2
[edit]Hey! I found an album on iTunes called Babies Go U2. It's basically the same idea as Rockaby Baby! but with some different tracks. I'm adding them at the moment, but having a bit of a prob with Beautiful Day. Could you take a look at it? For some reason, I can't get the line to divide between the last and second-last row. Thanks. --CrazyTonight (talk) 16:36, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Can't find a reference for this album anywhere. It's on the iTunes music store, but I can't find an internet source. --CrazyTonight (talk) 16:50, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Like YouTube, iTunes should only be a last resort as a source. To get an iTunes URL, go to the album page and right click the album title. There should only be one option, and that is "Copy iTunes Store URL". Click that, and just paste it in the reference. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 18:51, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Ikon
[edit]Source for Ikon = http://www.discogs.com/Ikon-This-Quiet-Earth/release/491983
- So added. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 22:37, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Muse at Glastonbury 2010
[edit]At Glastonbury Festival 2010, Muse did "Where the Streets Have No Name" with The Edge. Would this be considered a cover or a collaboration? Thanks. - 198.45.223.105 (talk) 23:20, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Inclusion criteria
[edit]Though this entire article runs afoul of WP:COVERSONG, the assumed criteria for inclusion here are 1) bluelink notable artists and 2) commercial release of the cover version.
1) We cannot (nor should we) include every artist that has ever covered a U2 song. Yes, I'm sure your garage band does a truly impressive Viking death metal version of "40" and that some day they'll be bigger than U2. As soon as that happens, let us know. I'm equally sure that your gospel choir's cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" sold a remarkable 116 copies on bandcamp. The groups themselves, however, are completely unknown outside of very small circles. Bluelink notability (the group has a stable Wikipedia article about them) is a commonly used, clear-cut criterion.
2) I don't doubt that numerous notable acts have covered a U2 song in concerts. In general, that's trivial. Imagine the mess we would have if "Happy Birthday to You" listed everyone who had ever performed the song live, from U2 to Marilyn Monroe and everyone in between.
Frankly, the whole article reeks of an effort by those who want a list of covers of U2 songs but have been stymied by the applicable guideline, WP:COVERSONG. This backwater page is the solution to those gripes. It is not, however, a blog. - SummerPhDv2.0 22:27, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
One drawback - no way to list chart success
[edit]Some of these covers were popular enough in their own right to make music charts. The one that I was looking at was Clivilles & Coles cover of "Pride (In the Name of Love)", which got to #15 in the UK, #54 on the US Hot 100 chart, and #6 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music - Club Play chart.
