New article
[edit]Hello. As you can see, this is a new article; a large portion of data is yet to be added. You are welcome to assist me in further expanding this. This article is intended to reduce the number of Orphaned power-station articles, which in-turn helps to better organize existing power station articles. Regards. Rehman(+) 07:43, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- There has to be thousands of coal fired plants worldwide. I don't know how that is going to work out. PirateArgh!!1! 07:53, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- No offense. But, dont you think listing all the thousands here is better than thousands of orphaned articles? Regards. Rehman(+) 08:07, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I thought you were just going to list every power station ever and was curious if you had thought that through. I wasn't trying to be discouraging, just was curious. I see now you made the 50MW cutoff. Regardless, the page looks good. PirateArgh!!1! 08:26, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. :) Regards. Rehman(+) 08:29, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Article rename
[edit]Hello. To avoid turning this into a mega list, i have separated the article (List of fossil fuel power stations) into "List of coal power stations", "List of fuel oil power stations" and "List of natural gas power stations". Feel free to comment on this move. Regards. Rehman(+) 01:16, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
China just has too many coal-fired power stations
[edit]China has the largest coal-fired electricity generation capacity in the world. It accounts about 80% of total eletricity capacity in China. By March 2010, there are twenty-four 1000MW coal-fired generator units are operational in China, and sixty-eight 1000MW units are being and going to be installed (ref). There are hundreds of coal-fired power stations which have >1000MW capacity, and this number is increasing every year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Generalhuo (talk • contribs) 03:48, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- The solution may be to rise 1000 MW limit to 2000 or 3000. --Jklamo (talk) 00:25, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Preferred location of GeoGroupTemplate
[edit]Has there been any discussion around a preferred location for the GeoGroupTemplate template? I see that on this page it's on the bottom, while on others, it's at the top. I think it's a good idea to place it on the top of pages since the ability to view all the locations on a map is a very powerful feature, and I don't think many people realize that this is possible. If the GeoGroupTemplate is at the bottom of the page, I suspect that most people won't notice it. Mr3641 (talk) 09:04, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Include lignite-fired power stations?
[edit]I noticed that this list contains several lignite-fired power stations (e.g. Bełchatów Power Station, Frimmersdorf Power Station, Jänschwalde Power Station, Niederaussem Power Station), but Neurath Power Station at 4400 MW is missing. I think it should be noted somewhere that the list also includes lignite-fired power stations and then include Neurath as well. 92.74.31.151 (talk) 13:05, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Feel free to add it. "Not inclusion" is due to incompletness of the list, not because that lignite-powered stations are excluded. --Jklamo (talk) 20:22, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
[edit]Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Dangjin Power Station might have been halted
[edit]According to this report: http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=22503 the Dangjin Power Station might have been halted. So it should not longer a operating coal power station. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fls81245 (talk • contribs) 09:54, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Cut-off
[edit]The list is very long, incomplete and hard to keep up-to-date. I think it is time to cut-off to 3,000 MW (or at least to 2,500 MW) to make it updateable. I will try to import existing data to Wikidata to avoid their loss during cut-off. Jklamo (talk) 13:28, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
- That sounds sensible - did you manage to import to Wikidata? From http://datasets.wri.org/dataset/globalpowerplantdatabase we should be able to see how many each cutoff point would result in Chidgk1 (talk) 12:10, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
@Jklamo: Hope you are well. Did you have time to consider this? Chidgk1 (talk) 19:13, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, import data to Wikidata is unfortunately still on my to-do list only. But feel free to cut-off, I can get data from history.
- That WRI dataset is nice (pity that its license is not compatible with Wikidata). From that list cut-off at 2,000 MW 247 plants; 2,500 MW 140 plants; 3,000 MW 76 plants. Thus 3,000 MW seems to be reasonable cutoff point.Jklamo (talk) 09:21, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- I kept the 3000 MW plants in the list and there are now 101 if I counted right. So someone with time on their hands reading this should be able to cross check with the WRI list and add any which are missing. However I am not sure the WRI list is being kept up to date so ideally eventually there should be another cite for each plant not just WRI. Chidgk1 (talk) 11:07, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Suggestion for publicising this list
[edit]It should now be feasible, over a period of months or years, to create new articles for all the non-Chinese stations on the list which don't have an article at the moment. If anyone does a new article you might want to craft it first in your sandbox and try to make it eligible for Wikipedia:Did you know, perhaps with a hook which includes a link to this article. Because this will be a much smaller number of articles than those on https://www.gem.wiki/ I guess they could be more detailed than those articles. Chidgk1 (talk) 11:41, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Are all of 3000MW and over listed?
[edit]@Jklamo Hope you are well. Do you or anyone else have time to figure out how to count the number of 3000 MW and over operational and under construction in https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-coal-plant-tracker/download-data/ and see whether it matches the number I have just put at the top of this article?
