Glaring Discrepancies

[edit]
  • This listing is not accurate as it shows glaring discrepancies in the overall totals. Setting the start year as 1990 just to be in line with the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 is misleading. The WTA Tier I tournaments started in 1988 and if you are including them in this list to match the men's 1000 tour events they should reflect the correct start date and base full statistics from that date. The 2 year cut off point means Steffi Graf does not have her 7 Majors, 1 YEC and 3 Tier 1 titles included 11 in all and other players who have been downgraded just to make current players records look superior is misleading. --Navops47 (talk) 15:32, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is true... we shouldn't use some arbitrary date just because the men's tour started then. The title of this article also needs changing badly. Either it should be "List of WTA Tour Grand Slam tournaments and Tier 1 singles champions", to coincide closely with the men's article, or we need to change the term "major" to "significant" as we have done with other articles. Major in tennis, is the big 4 tournaments only so it's confusing to many readers. Fyunck(click) (talk) 15:59, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would go one further: In its current state, this page is more or less useless and a deletion is likely the best course of action. A more reasonable page would list grand slams, possibly amended with olympics and the tour final, without any time restrictions. Alternatively, going by the page title, it might make sense to simply list all winners with their respective title count, again without time restrictions. (I have not investigated what other pages are already present.) A listing with the arbitrariness of the current is of little encyclopedic value (but might be legitimate in a tennis reference book). 80.226.24.1 (talk) 09:33, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
