References (or lack of)
[edit]I should have explained why I added the 'citations required' message. Lists are not exempt from the requirement of reliable sources. Because there are several redlinks listed here and, unusually, links to articles that do not contain information about the subject (the Roman villa) there is not really anything to prevent someone making up a name and adding it to the list. Often Wikipedia lists will not allow inclusion of non-notable items i.e. with no WP article about them or referring to them. Anything that is not obviously notable needs to cite a reference.
I've added a Reference list section to help get things going! Sionk (talk) 18:33, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Okay done. The main problem with this list right now is that it's very patchy and incomplete. It currently contains about 100 villas whereas a more complete list of villas would probably number about 300. Pasicles (talk) 19:59, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- Right, well, I've done what I can I think. I've added about 370 extra Roman villas to the list, taking the total up to about 475. The list should now have most of the well-known and well-excavated villas. Of course in addition to the villas listed here there is also a huge class of "possible" villa sites, which are known only from cropmarks or because someone has dug up a hypocaust tile, etc., so a list like this can never actually be complete.
