What is 'the State'? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Monkeygirl3493 (talk • contribs) 17:29, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- The State is the "State of the Ireland". Could similarly be called the "Government". (Although "State" is actually more accurate, because it's not the government who manage National Monuments in Ireland, but a state body called the "National Monuments Service". As described in the second sentence.). Guliolopez (talk) 17:34, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
List
[edit]There are approximately 1000 national monuments. This is too many items for an embedded list. Per WP:LIST. If we're going to have a list, it should be a separate "List of National Monuments of Ireland" article. Compare to List of National Monuments of the United States. - I agree with you. I was just adding on to this to avoid starting a new article until it was necessary. My plan was actually going to be to move this page to "List of National Monuments of Ireland" after a few more counties were added since it doesn't look like this stub is going to be expanded any more. It is desirable to have at least a short lead in a standalone list article, so this small stub, IMO, would be a perfect lead with a few tweaks. After the list became too long, I was going to split out sections like "List of National Monuments in County Clare, Ireland", etc. and leave a {{Main}} link. If you'd rather keep this stub and start a new list article, I'm fine with that too.. I just didn't want to start the article until I knew I actually needed it. --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 00:35, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- Fair enough and understood. Once the list is complete we can decide whether it should be split separately, or left with what is already a pretty short intro. If you need a hand with expanding the list let me know. Guliolopez (talk) 11:30, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- Well, to be honest, I don't really know much at all about Ireland or anything about its national monuments haha. I'm a member of WP:HSITES, and I was going around looking for heritage registers that showed promise and that we could add to our infobox, {{Infobox Historic Site}}. I added probably 10 or 15 in the past week, but a few didn't meet the requirements for inclusion. They have to at least have an article about the designation itself and preferably a list of all sites, though this one probably could have squeaked by because it has an external list. In order to add Pittsburgh Landmarks, I made a list of all those sites, so I'm kind of trying to do the same thing here. I'm in a bit over my head I guess, since I don't really know anything about the land itself (I know a bit about Pittsburgh and how everything works in the US, but I didn't even know what a Townland was or what friaries and abbeys were haha), so if you'd like to look over my shoulder and make sure I don't screw anything up, that would be nice haha. If you're willing, you may be able to find articles I can't find too, or at least pictures (I see you added one earlier). I'm pretty sure I can handle it on my own, but it's always good to have someone give things a second look, you know? That would be appreciated! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 22:05, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- Well, for someone who doesn't know a lot about the place/places, you're doing a pretty good job finding all the correct articles/images/etc. Nothing seems to be awry so far, but am happy to review and tweak as neccesary as you add more. Good luck. Guliolopez (talk) 22:17, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

I finished listing out all the counties today.. the article is now >69K bytes. Should we split out some, or is it fine to leave it like this? I plan to move this to List of National Monuments of Ireland if you don't mind. --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 01:15, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- Looks great. Happy to support move. Good work. Guliolopez (talk) 18:15, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Wow Dude - kudos. Take a bow. This is a national service. - Laurel Lodged (talk) 20:03, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Kilkenny missing?
[edit]The Kilkenny list isn't included in the table. And when I add it it "messes up" the table. Not familiar enough with the include logic to understand why. Can someone review? Guliolopez (talk) 12:07, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
- I've added the county. The problem was a misplaced onlyinlclude tag in List of National Monuments in County Kilkenny. Thanks for pointing that out! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 15:49, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Incomplete?
[edit]I know of a few Kildare nat monuments that are not listed ...but maybe they have been delisted. "The Irish state has officially approved the following List of National Monuments of Ireland." is a bit po-faced - could we have a source please.Red Hurley (talk) 20:22, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Coordinates
[edit]The individual county lists contain links to pdf documents wherein Grid References are located. Would it be possible to turn these into coordinates for display in this list? --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 20:28, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Link is 404
[edit]The link doesn't follow through anymore. I believe the website has changed structure. Need to figure this out. Also, where does the number come from? Can't figure that one. Is it an official number, if so, it is not in the same format that I see the Reference on another inventory list, e.g. DU-50-O-196297 for St. Helens, Booterstown. Dividing List
[edit]Since I have added a lot of location information the list is too large to be held on one page. <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Pages_where_template_include_size_is_exceeded> I have created four draft pages for the provinces and have migrated the information to those pages. Once the pages have been approved I will create links to the new pages on this page. I will also be able to correct the county and location columns on the new pages.
