Category or list?

[edit]

Related category deleted Dec. 2007 (CFD 2007/11/27); discussants felt list was more appropriate. --Lquilter (talk) 18:55, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of Muslim astronauts? — Relisting. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:15, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that this topic is better served as a full blown article, rather than simply a list article. It would then be appropriate to add information on the practice of Islamic rituals whilst in space, as several people in the recently concluded AfD have suggested be added to the article.

There are several possible names that can be used... depending on the spelling of "Moslem" and the word used for "cosmonaut"

  • Muslim / Moslem / Islamic
  • Astronaut / Cosmonaut / Spationaut / Taikonaut / Spacetraveller

The majority of the *nauts travelled aboard a Soyuz or were from the Soviet/Russian program, so this suggests that "cosmonaut" is more appropriate.

Soviet cosmonauts

[edit]

I am afraid that we have here some juggling with facts. Soviet cosmonauts could not be Muslims, appropriate authorities have always looked after it. The source, which is used in the list, takes them merely by their ethnicity and tries to present it if they really were Muslims. I suspect that source is not trustworthy. May someone show other sources? --Melandr (talk) 11:36, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There were quite a lot of Muslims in soviet Union, but no religious person (irrespectively Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist) would accepted for such a mission. Soviet Intelligent Service has watched for it. Source is taken them simply by reason that these persons belong to nations where majority is Muslim, but it does not mean that they were Muslims. If you have no other trustworthy source of information, do not put these people into the list.--Melandr (talk) 13:48, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ansari?

[edit]

Isn't Anousheh Ansari Muslim? She's not on this list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.105.105.80 (talk) 21:44, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed; I've added her. Mlm42 (talk) 05:33, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why does this list exist?

[edit]

Where is the list of "Christian astronauts"? Atheist astronauts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.252.72.61 (talk) 11:41, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like me to take this page to pages for disscusion for you? If so, please leave a detailed reason why you would like this page to be removed. Oddbodz (talk) 11:44, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering why there is a list for Muslims and Jews, but not for Catholics, Presbyterians, Hindu's, Atheists, Pantheists, Pastafarian, Vegetarian etc.? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.252.72.61 (talk) 11:47, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it's just because no body ever got around to making one for the above groups. I'll take it that you don't want this page removed. If you do, just let someone know on this talk page. Oddbodz (talk) 12:02, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Christians should be treated equally, there should be a Christian list. If some people don't get a list, then no-one should get a list.

"If some people don't get a list, then no-one should get a list." That's now how Wikipedia works. If you're so obsessed with making a list for them, go make the articles yourself. With time, more and more people will edit it and expand it. Anyone here can make an article. Asaduzzaman Khan Shahriar (talk) 13:21, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not obsessed with it, but it looks like blatent discrimination.
Middle More Rider (talk) 21:03, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It’s not discrimination if someone feels bothered to write an article on one subject they’re interested in and not every other potential related subject. If you’re interested, you’re more than welcome to write them. JapanStar49 (talk) 18:31, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
