Redundant
[edit]Isn't the "Status" column of Main Characters chart a little redundant? You already have the "Seasons" which shows how long the character has been on the show as well as the "First episode" and "Last episode" column which shows when the character was introduced and if they are still on the show or not. That can free up space as the entire webpage loads with chart out of bounds. Horizonlove (talk) 00:26, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Merger proposal

Formal request has been received to merge: Melinda Warner into List of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit characters; dated: 9 April 2018. [ Proposer's Rationale: the article is mostly plot and the only sources are the episodes themselves. 69.118.32.213. ] Discuss here. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 07:01, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- I cannot imagine why when Sonya Paxton lives out there, you would think this is the one worth merging - GalatzTalk 14:01, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- I went ahead and performed the merge as the character article already had the same general content in her entry on this article, just extra plot and trivial details that were not really needed. For Sonya Paxton, I am not sure what should be done there. 74.89.41.77 (talk) 22:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- Sounds reasonable to me. This discussion has been active for a long time now, it's unlikely anyone else contribute at this time. So Galatz you need to comment on this talk page regarding your reversion. Commonsense would indicate merging is the correct thing to do. Polyamorph (talk) 08:27, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Considering no one has supported it in all that time, merging is incorrect. I as the sole commenter and opposed to her being merged. To me this is a clear no consensus. Where are you getting your correct thing to do from? - Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 13:28, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Per the comments of 74.89.41.77 which I deemed reasonable, I support their decision to merge. Polyamorph (talk) 13:44, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah I also agree with merging Melinda Warner despite her being a series regular for a few season given what is in her article, unless someone can add more reliable sources instead of just episode summary and rating or receptions. The Legendary Ranger (talk) 23:57, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Formal request has been received to merge: Barry Moredock into List of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit characters; [ Proposer's rationale: This character was never a series regular, just appeared in 11 random episodes, and the article is mostly plot and has no reliable sources. 74.89.40.77. ] Dated 1 May 2018. Discuss here. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 18:27, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- Merge Small enough of a character, should be merged. - GalatzTalk 12:36, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- Merge. I note that an IP user has already boldly performed this action but their redirect from Barry Moredock to this page has been reverted several times. This should be restored - since this merge request is over a month old and appears to be uncontroversial. Polyamorph (talk) 14:04, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

A suggestion has been made to merge: Sonya Paxton into List of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit characters; Dated 30 April 2018. Discuss here. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 18:27, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- Don't merge — article in question is covered by a litany of reliable sources over a number of years demonstrating notability through WP:SIGCOV, and the article goes well beyond a section in the targeted list. I will also note that no adequate rationale based on policy (or anything for that matter) has been proposed by those seeking a merge. Pinging creator of the article, @Davejohnsan: for their thoughts. —MelbourneStar☆talk 01:42, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- Merge - The fact that it is covered my multiple sources so not mean it is notable for its own article. This minor character should be merged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Galatz (talk • contribs) 14 May 2018, 12:36 (UTC)
- comment – Actually, per WP:SIGCOV it does. —MelbourneStar☆talk 01:41, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- @MelbourneStar: Which sources do you think have significant coverage, separate and apart from Law & Order?? - GalatzTalk 11:46, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Galatz: Sources in the reference list – specifically: 9, 10, 11, 17, 21 – discuss the character in detail, and all secondary sources provided [9 to 21] also discuss the article. I'll further note, per WP:SIGCOV:
There is no fixed number of sources required since sources vary in quality and depth of coverage, but multiple sources are generally expected
— I've suggested more than a few, five. —MelbourneStar☆talk 12:12, 31 May 2018 (UTC)- @MelbourneStar: 9 is titled "Christine Lahti and Neal Baer Talk Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", clearly this is not about the character separate and apart from the show. 10 is titled "SVU News: Mariska and Meloni Are In for Season 11, and So Is Christine Lahti", clearly she is an after thought in other SVU news, so nope not separate and apart. 11 is literally 2 sentences that talk about her coming back, definitely not significant coverage. Number 17 and 21 are more detailed than 11 but all about the same signing. One instance of resigning certainly is not significant coverage. - GalatzTalk 12:46, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Galatz: I'm assuming you've actually read the sources, and not just cherry-picked their headlines? because last I checked, it isn't common practice on Wikipedia to cite references in an article just for their catchy headlines, and ignore the value within the sources. —MelbourneStar☆talk 13:00, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- @MelbourneStar: Yes I very clearly did based on my comment and discussing what was in the last three articles. I assume you didnt read the sources, otherwise you would have realized that the second one you mentioned was a dead link, which is why I had to base my conclusion on the headline. - GalatzTalk 13:14, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Galatz: I still disagree with your conclusions re sources 17 and 21, and the premise for sources 9 to 11 - what you believe is detailed/significant would be different to what I believe it to be. That's alright. I contend the subject is notable, as demonstrated by the fact that secondary sources over a number of years don't just drop her name but go into detail (how much detail is up for debate). I did read the sources, perhaps because I wrote that section; nevertheless, I've fixed the link after a two second Google search. As to avoid back-and-forth I would direct you to my initial comments expressed above. Regards, —MelbourneStar☆talk 13:32, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

- Merge minor character. Polyamorph (talk) 16:47, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Support as she only appeared in 7 episodes and the reception and references can be added to the main article. I will perform the merge at the end of the month unless there is another objection. The Legendary Ranger (talk) 23:50, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Emil Skoda (Law & Order) should be merged here. The character's article has no sources, is relatively short, and is mostly plot. 108.21.244.229 (talk) 13:33, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
