Japanese names

[edit]

Why do we have the "Japanese Names" written on here too? They're not official, and are usually just alternate spellings of the official ones. Example:

Rod Ross (Rodd Los (ロッド・ロス Roddo Rosu?) in the Japanese version) Glen Humphreys (Gurren Hangfreeze (グレン・ハンフリーズ Guren Hanfurīzu?) in the Japanese version) Rashual Bid (Rushuall Bid (ラシュアル・ビッド Rashuaru Biddo?) in the Japanese version)

And another thing. No translator in their right mind would translate グレン・ハンフリーズ to Gurren Hangfreeze. The creators obviously intended the character to be named Glen Humphreys. Where do these supposed "Japanese names" even come from? The writer's personal opinion? I'll remove these unless I get some feedback soon. Captain America 02:05, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Beyond Birthday's death.

[edit]

Beyond Birthday does not die several years later, only two, on January 21st, 2004, while serving a life sentence in a California prison. His heart attack is described as 'mysterious,' rather than 'by Kira,' which leaves him in a vague mist, rather than a concrete Kira victim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chocoholic68 (talkcontribs) 06:24, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In its timeline, HtR13 describes him as "killed by the power of the Death Note", which seems pretty concrete. Vashti (talk) 13:57, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The following sentence in the paragraph about Beyond Birthday contains unconfirmed information: "A, the original successor to L,[clarification needed] had killed himself years earlier due to the pressure of living up to L."

It is not said that "A" was "Ls" original successor. He was just "another, possible" successor. Also it is not said anywhere, when exactly he killed himself. The information "years earlier" is therefore not based on official facts.

Ansuchi (talk) 19:06, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A was the one who was originaly supposed to succeed L. That is why he commited suicide, the pressure became too much for him to be better than everyone else in the Wammy house and be equal to L. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.77.24.8 (talk) 01:55, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning Raye Penber

[edit]

I have made two attempts to comprimse with editor Undead Penguin (including such changes that directly address his original compaints)-now it his turn. -Sensemaker

Looking at the edit, it is an interpretation and annalist of the events. Adding your own analytic, synthetic, interpretive, explanatory, or evaluative claims based on the primary source is a violation of WP:NOR, specifically WP:PSTS. One needs a reliable third-party source that actually makes the claims. You can only use the primary source to make a discriminative claim (Event A happens, Event B happens). —Farix (t | c) 13:35, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think what I am writing is referencing, not analysing. Please stop talking in generalities. What portions of the text do you think violates what rules. -Sensemaker

the entire entree is purely your opinion on the section. there is no source ANYWHERE that says that Ray's death was meant to be of this significance. now more then one person agrees that your addition is faulty and you still add it. Undead penguin (talk) 07:42, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  1. "Raye's death seems to demonstrate how Light's ethics have changed since he first came into possession of Death Note." Entirely a personal opinion. Ussually, when you see terms such as "appears" or "seems", then it is a red flag that what follows is someone's original research.
  2. "All of Light's previous murders have been unpleasant-looking, criminal or ill-behaved people that the reader knows very little about. Furthermore, the murders have been told entirely from Light's perspective." Set up for a synthesis.
  3. "Raye, however is a decent, dutiful and innocent person and his fatal encounter with Light is mostly told from Raye's perspective." More synthesis setup. You are trying to arrange details in a way to reach or imply a particular conclusion.
  4. "This encounter is described in detail allowing the reader to empathize with Raye's horror when he is forced to betray his colleagues to protect his fiancee." Analyst and interpretation. This is also were you finally state your synthesis from points 2 and 3.
  5. "At the end of the encounter Light heartlessly gloats at his victim in stark contrast to the horror and revultion Light felt the first time he realized he had killed someome." More analyst and interpretation. Not relevant to Raye Penber.

Essentially the whole thing is bad, doesn't have any third party sources to back it up, and doesn't belong on Raye Penber's entry. —Farix (t | c) 11:43, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Farix, for actually trying to give me reasons for your thinking and edits. I do not agree, but your thinking is not without merit. I hope to return to this matter in few days. (This delay is partially because I think a bit of time off from this issue is good in this situation and partially because I am currently too busy to write the type of full and proper answer that your coherent, reasonable explanation merits and a third attempt at compromise.) -Sensemaker
There is no compromise when it comes to adding your own individual interpretation and analyst of the work. This is never allowed in Wikipedia. —Farix (t | c) 21:13, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
