Notable Chinese Bible Translations
[edit]Is it possible to remove that section? How do we justify 'notable'? I can foresee the list will grow beyond control because everyone thinks his Bible version is notable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ancos (talk • contribs) 11:04, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- Good point. I merged the list from Bible translations into Chinese and changed the section title to "Chinese Bible translations," which doesn't really solve the problem, but at least it makes the problem affect only one page. Besides, a list should go on the list page. Hope this is ok. ch (talk) 07:27, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
No References Tag?
[edit]The guideline MOS:LIST is not entirely clear as to what exactly is required of a "List Article." On the one hand, all article must meet the same criteria of WP:Verifiability, but on the other hand, the guideline says "The items on these lists include links to articles in a particular subject area, and may include additional information about the listed items." It's hard to conclude that this requires a link to be sourced. Even if this is the case, this particular List Article does have a number of items which do not meet the further criterion that an item may be red-linked if there is a reasonable expectation that an article is possible. These items should be removed or sourced. Is my understanding correct? ch (talk) 07:32, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Further investigation Checking policy and parallel examples makes clear that List Class Articles show their sources in different ways from straight articles. The most common method is to link to either a Wikipedia article on the item or, in the case of books, simply a citation of the book or a link to some outside version of it, such as a digital copy, a Google Book, or even an Amazon listing. Recall that the standard as to whether there must be a note to a Reliable Source is not that everything must be sourced, only statements that there is a 50% chance or better would be challenged.
WP:Lists has links to the relevant guidelines and help pages.
Examples:
- List of books about Tintin.
- List of English Bible translations has notes, but only to online version of the item.
- English translations of Homer does not have "List" in the title, but is List Classs. The article likewise has extensive notes to online versions of the translations, not to Reliable sources, indicating again that these sources are not expected for List Articles.
- 1955 in literature
- List of Tokyo Mew Mew chapters is a Featured List. There is a References section with notes that link to Amazon listings, that is, accepts Amazon as a reliable source that the books exits.
Therefore I will remove the tag within a few days if no new or contrary policy or guideline brought up.
