Notes
[edit]There is at least one college missing from the list, St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI (website www.snc.edu). Please add! Thanks 99.63.50.190 (talk) 04:53, 6 July 2011 (UTC)K
Formatting cleanup
[edit]I think this page needs to be cleaned up a bit, but I'd like to get some input first.
- 1. I don't think having the cities linked to in the article adds much value and I would like to get rid of those links. However, I'll await input here.
- 2. This list doesn't need links to the official sites of the universities. Instead, those links should be on the college or university's entry in Wikipedia. Again, I'm not very certain on this and await input on this topic.
- 3. The states should all be either spelled out or abbreviated. As this refers to a topic that is clearly US-centric, I think abbreviations would have a neater presentation and thus am doing the "be bold" thing and changing them now. If there is major controversy on this issue, please let me know.
If I can think of anything else, I'll note it here as I go along! Panchitavilletalk 04:01, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Having the links is helpful, the more information the better. Please leave them, they do not make the page cluttered at all, and are worth it. They are an excellent resource, to delete them would be almost to make this directory pointless. Remember, wiki is about as much information as possible.
Abbreviations are fine.
Ex Corde Ecclesiae
[edit]The following schools have been declared by their Bishop to be "no longer Catholic" under the provisions of Ex Corde Ecclesiae
- Marist College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y
- Nazareth College, Rochester, New York
- Saint John Fisher College, Rochester, New York
- Marymount Manhattan College, New York, New York
I will remove them from this list. --Jdurbach 18:45, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- This is a secular/non-denominational encyclopedia. It doesn't really matter if some local bishop says it is or is not Catholic, we're not enforcing church decrees, it's what the college or university says about itself and has posted on its website. For example the College of St Rose states that it is "...sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet..." so under this list it would go under Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet.
- This is really a listing of "colleges and universities affiliated with Roman Catholic religious orders and dioceses" and not how it is currently listed. Agreed it is a jumble but the intention was there. -- highdesert
Catholic Medical Schools
Two schools that no longer have medical schools were listed in the current category (Seton Hall and Marquette). Both medical schools have gone public since the 60's and are properly listed under Former Catholic Schools so should not be listed in a current group. I have removed them for accuracy. - I think that even though this very list's data can be useful and being merged into (i.a.) Category:Roman Catholic universities and colleges in the United States - please feel invited to do as such - however, this list itself, as is, has a splendid and most useful purpose on its own, too. In my view, it will be quite hard to alter the representation of those very data and keeping as quick and easy an overview as is served by this very list.
- As such, master lists as is this one, constitute a nice and most useful tool for derived work, too - interwiki matters included. It is a most useful source. Please keep it and keep it that way.
- Thank you &
- Merry X-mas to all of you,
