[edit]Canadian football as played by the CFL is NOT American football which what this is a list of Smith03 23:24, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
- I'm going to put the CFL back in.
- For the context of this article, I think we should be listing every league of the sport. This would include the CFL. While there are many signifcant variations, most of these result in an adjustment of strategy, they don't make it a different sport. Players can and do interchange between American leagues and the CFL. Certainly the NFL and CFL resemble each other at least as, if not more closely than do the NFL and Arena Football.
- This is simply a matter of the articles name. Canadian Football isn't played in America and evolved on its own but I think not including it is being pedantic and detrimental to the article's purpose. The article should list all leagues that play what North Americans would call the sport of football. We can't call the article "List of leagues of football" as it needs to be defined from soccer. Least confusing would be to rename it with North American football but lets face it, nobody refers to the sport as North American football. We don't refer to Canadian football as American football in north america but we never have to make a distinction, we just call them both football. The world uses "American football" as the term to refer to this sport and would also use this term to describe Canadian football if they saw it. To me American football is the only term that has any common usage when generalizing like this.--Pongetti 10:19, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Canadian football is not the same as American football. I am not sure that arena football should be in the list. Smith03 15:08, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps the title of the page can be changed to something else, or put a note at the bottom of the page about the CFL, but it is incorrect to list the CFL on a page about American football Smith03 19:58, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit]New sports (American football) league launched in Aug 2018, it has four teams in Cal. and four others in the Eastern US. Not sure if it'll last over one season, but here's their web site. https://www.developmentalfootball.com/ 12.218.47.124 (talk) 04:12, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
