The contents of the Off licence page were merged into Liquor store on 14 July 2019. For the contribution history and old versions of the redirected page, please see its history; for the discussion at that location, see its talk page.
While the term "Off license" is related to a shop's ability to sell alcohol, this does not mean that shops which term themselves "Off licenses", at least here in the UK -- which I believe is the centre of gravity for this terminology -- resemble in any way the Liquor stores that are the focus of this article. Liquor is very much a minority of what Off Licenses here sell -- they sell a wide variety of foodstuffs, cleaning products, basic toiletries and stationary supplies, etc. They are far more analogous to mini-mart, superette, or especially a New York-style Bodega than to a liquor store. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.29.120.39 (talk) 11:29, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The distinction is murky given that the beer shop article concedes that beer shops can sell wine as well. There's also an WP:ENGVAR problem in that bottle shop redirects to liquor store because the two are synonyms in a lot of the world, but in the UK a bottle shop specialises in craft beer. This would be resolved by the merger.
Also the beer shop article is pretty skimpy and half of it is about licensing which is covered in more depth by the main liquor store article. FlagSteward (talk) 21:20, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The article starts with a Distinguish template for The Liquor Store, a single business venue in Portland, Oregon, that opened in 2015 and closed in 2020. That this admonishment not to be confused was needed at all seems unlikely, it's more an advertisement for the business than anything, and it's certainly not relevant any longer.
