Liposuction for axillary hyperhidrosis
[edit]Liposuction is safe and efficient minimally invasive alternative for the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis. <ref>https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14764172.2016.1248438<ref> RLBynum (talk) 16:12, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- I'm concerned about the statement "liposuction is safe and minimally invasive." Liposuction is surgery. Saying that a surgery is safe seems like a sales term and is a generalization. Liposuction is invasive. People die and are harmed in the short and long-term from liposuction. I'm not sure how to correct this edit. I'm concerned that statements on this page are misleading readers. Juliet Sabine (talk) 06:32, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- I suggest removing this edit so as not to mislead readers into thinking that liposuction surgery is safe and minimally invasive. Juliet Sabine (talk) 06:38, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Safety and risks
[edit]I suggest adding a third sentence to the second paragraph of Safety and risks. "The TOPS database is only voluntary, not available to the public, and does not follow cases long-term or get testimony and experience of patients, only from doctors who profit from doing liposuction." Juliet Sabine (talk) 23:14, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Cosmetic Liposuction
[edit]The first paragraph now reads, "There are two different uses for liposuction: cosmetic liposuction to change the body's contour or shape and reconstructive, medically necessary liposuction. Reconstructive uses include treatment of lipedema,[6] to remove excess fat in the chronic medical condition lymphedema,[7] and to remove lipomas from areas of the body.[8][9]" I suggest adding the sentence, "Whatever the intention for liposuction, the changes in biology, increase in visceral fat, and structural, aesthetic, and other risks resulting from liposuction surgery remain constant."
