Bush visit

I don't know if the stuff about Bush visiting and the city wanting to be reimursed is really relevant to this article.

  • It was a huge issue at the time. I suppose it should be deleted after the election, however. Rhymeless 02:02, 14 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Capitol Building Picture

I would like to replace the picture of the Capitol Building with one that's a little less hazy and covers more of the building itself. don't want to go about changing things right away, so please advise. --Mawhamba 10:18, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Is it worth mentioning the Bruce Springsteen song "Nebraska"? :-)

What, in particular about it and the song's relation to the article Lincoln, Nebraska? --Mawhamba 10:02, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

Survey on appropriateness of Lincoln Article

The survey at the location Talk:Lincoln/Vote may be of interest to those who edit this article as it is an attempt to determine whether Lincoln should remain as it is, directed towards Lincoln, Lincolnshire, or should be directed to Lincoln (disambiguation). Agriculture 7 July 2005 15:35 (UTC)

Article cleanup

I'm working on cleaning up this article to Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities standards at User:Swid/Sandbox. Feel free to take a look at it and/or edit it... Swid 17:13, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Done (as of a few days ago. –Swid 16:11, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject:Nebraska proposal

Would you like to help improve the quality of Nebraska-related articles? If so, reply on my talk page; I'd like to see if there is any interest in creating WikiProject:Nebraska. –Swid 16:11, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Neighborhood Discussion

It seems to me that Clinton should be listed as one of the neighborhoods in Lincoln. What do others feel?

Notable residents

Surely this would be improved if there was a short description of why each of these people is notable? CarlyPalmer 05:40, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. Control 16:55, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Am I mistaken, or are most of the 'Notable Residents' in this section actually from elsewhere (Omaha, mostly) and have little or no ties to Lincoln itself (Marlon Brando, Fred Astaire, Gerald Ford, etc)? If this is to refer to the entire State, it should be noted as such. The list should be shortened if this is taken, as I did, to refer to current or ex-residents of the city?
I added the Not verified tag to this section. Each entry here requires a citation that specifically states these individuals have resided in Lincoln. – Freechild (BoomCha) 16:08, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

More Sports

I think that that more team names should be added giving more of a sporty feel to a city - RtodaJ

is it

named after lincoln the guy? I thoiugh he was from indiana or such whatnot. kzz* 23:30, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I had read that Abraham Lincoln drew up the original corporation papers for Lancaster in the 1850s, before he was President, and that that was a factor when they renamed it Lincoln. I forget the source of this. Josh-Levin@ieee.org 05:25, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Lincoln Skyline

I believe that the Lincoln skyline picture isn't very flattering for the city, not to mention that it is outdated. It should be replaced with a current skyline. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Benben555 (talkcontribs) 02:06, 27 January 2007 (UTC).

How do you figure it's outdated? I took that picture in 2004. In addition, the point of Wikipedia is not necessarily to flatter its subject matter, but, rather, to demonstrate it correctly. Stack 07:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Well the picture to me seems unlike the real skyline being the changes to some buildings. I also didn't mean flattering in the way you interpreted it, I meant it as to make the picture more high quality. Benben555 17:22, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

What buildings have changed? Stack 04:38, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Notable residents

Aren't many of the names listed in the notable residents section from Omaha? I think the list used is just a list of famous Nebraskans, rather than famous Lincolnites.

See above. – Freechild (BoomCha) 16:10, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Population!

Somebody better check these population figures - a metro of 3.6 million!!?? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.89.80.179 (talk) 05:55, 26 March 2007 (UTC).

wow! Lincoln is not that big

--Oaxspot (talk) 14:47, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

I added redlinks throughout the list of attractions in the city. Each one of these places needs its own article, and placing redlinks can incentivize people to write them. – Freechild (BoomCha) 16:11, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Can we please have more in the section history sectionNew4321 15:53, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Local neighborhood name

Being a local to Lincoln I rarely hear of the "south bottoms". To everyone here it's called the 'Russian Bottoms'. This should be added to the description as another name for the neighborhood. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.84.172.206 (talk) 20:05, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

"Official" to whom? It's known as the Russian Bottoms. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.116.177.82 (talk) 01:23, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Clinton neighborhood

I've just re-removed a passage inserted by an IP editor regarding ethnicity and culture in the Clinton neighborhood. The passage cites no sources, and contains assertions that could reasonably be seen as controversial. I'd like to call the editor's attention to WP:NOTOPINION and to WP:V. An editor's personal opinions or analysis do not belong in a WP article; and controversial assertions must be attributed and properly cited. Ammodramus (talk) 13:29, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Neighborhoods

The "Neighborhoods" section has worn a citations-needed tag since 2009. There's some useful information in it, but it appears to be turning into a repository for OR and opinions. Unless citations are added soon, I am contemplating the complete removal of the section. Ammodramus (talk) 15:55, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

I agree, the neighborhoods section is a bit of a mess and detracts from the rest of the article. Is it possible to take out the misc., minor neighborhoods and just leave the major ones??? Hanyou23 (talk) 20:10, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
This strikes me as a good idea-- if we can find a good source for which are the major neighborhoods. We can't leave this up to an editor's opinion; that would constitute original research, which is verboten, and would give us no way to defend the section from people wanting to puff their own subdivisions. Ideally, we should have some kind of City of Lincoln document to support this. If you can find such a document, go for it! Ammodramus (talk) 23:35, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
An alternative that just occurred to me: split out the current list as a separate article, per WP:SPLITLIST, WP:STAND. Per the latter, we'd need a criterion for inclusion: I'd suggest that it be limited to the 45 neighborhoods listed at "Neighborhood Statistics", a City of Lincoln webpage. The main Lincoln article could then have a general paragraph or two about neighborhoods, with a "See" template linking to the list article. Ammodramus (talk) 15:23, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
I really like that idea - especially WP:STAND. This area of editing on Wikipedia is a little new to me, so I'll try to get something going and then you can edit it as you see fit. It may take a little while... Hanyou23 (talk) 20:18, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

State Fair Park Arboretum

Is the State Fair Park Arboretum still there??? I think most of it got torn down for the new Innovation Campus..... Hanyou23 (talk) 30 November 2013 17:57 (UTC)

Map of Lincoln

CrunchySkies, is there any way to convert the map of Lincoln from a png to a jpg? The file is pretty large and loads in a strange way (doesn't seem to want to load, unless I'm being impatient - I use Safari on a Mac). Hanyou23 (talk) 19:29, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Structure

Hi. I'm going through all the US Cities (as per List of United States cities by population) in an effort to provide some uniformity in structure. Anyone have an issue with me restructuring this article as per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. I won't be changing any content, merely the order. Occasionally, I will also move a picture just to clean up spacing issues. I've already gone through the top 20 or so on the above list, if you'd like to see how they turned out. Thoughts? Onel5969 (talk) 19:55, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Please do... excited to see the results! Hanyou23 (talk) 1:47, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Notable People

Hi. An editor Froid continues to insist on including a member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in the notability list. I've attempted to point out to him that per wiki guidelines, the person is not notable. Inclusion in a list does not automatically elevate someone to the level of notability. As described in WP:USCITIES, they still must meet notability requirements per WP:PEOPLE. A fast and easy way to establish this is if they already have an article written about them on Wikipedia, since it would have never been approved, or would have been deleted, if they did not meet notability requirements. Since the individual does not have their own article, and a quick google search does not provide any evidence of them meeting the wiki notability requirements, I've reverted the edits twice. Onel5969 (talk) 15:31, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Further research shows that this person is notable, just does not have his own page. Perhaps this is a chance for someone to write his article? Onel5969 (talk) 15:42, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
Somehow, that Notable People section still needs to be cleaned up with references - not sure if I can take it all on myself..... Hanyou23 (talk) 16:08, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
There's a separate page for the notable people of Lincoln. Am working on moving over any that are not on the list. Will be cleaned up shortly. Onel5969 (talk) 16:53, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so much!!! Hanyou23 (talk) 04:35, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
