[edit]Why is there a photograph on this page which is specifically stated NOT to be the building which is the subject of the article ??Ordyg (talk) 19:12, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- It's part of the Lilburn Tower estate. I agree it's a bit messed up at the moment, and I'm happy if we start to rearrange things. Here's what I've gleaned:
- There is Lilburn Tower, which appears to be a name given to the big house.
- However the house also seems to be known as Lilburn Grange
- The Hurlestone and the Hurlestone Tower are both on the Lilburn Grange Estate
- Then there's Lilburn, the hamlet.
- The Hurlestone Tower is certainly associated with the Grange. I'm not entirely clear whether the Stone is more associated with the hamlet or the Estate - I'd guess the latter.
- So, in short, I'm trying to widen the article to include "things of the estate", since they're relatively notable but probably not sufficiently supported by information to spawn child articles. (And now I've added some context, but I'm happy that we discuss what information should be on which article.) What's clearly missing is a good shot of the Grange. --Tagishsimon (talk) 19:48, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that it is confusing particularly since we have both West Lilburn and East Lilburn. The way English Heritage get round part of the problem is to describe the ruined tower as West Lilburn Tower and the 19th century mansion as Lilburn Tower. See the EH refs that I will add to the article. The only Grange that I have in my notes ( just to add more confusion) is connected to Lilburn Grange Cottages and Lilburn Grange Farm.Ordyg (talk) 14:58, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
I vaguely gleaned from a google books ref I no longer have to hand, that Lilburn Tower (the C19 residential building) is not the same thing as the 12/13th century (East) Lilburn Tower.Ah. I was probably assuming that both West and East Lilburn had towers. Do I understand only one of them had such a thing. (And where exactly is it in relation to the C19 building?) But you must understand that I am seeing everything through an internet, dimly. Now the question arises, what to do with the Hurlestone Tower & Stone. Should they for the time being continue to be associated with the Lilburn Tower article?
- As to the Grange, my source for this is not good - a flickr image, from memory, or a blog. However in my experience, where we have a Lilburn Grange Cottages and Lilburn Grange Farm, we will likely have a Grange. In this instance, what is the Grange if it is not the C19 house.
- So, in all this, I stand to be corrected & apologise if I'm confusing it more. I suppose I could just wander up the drive, cap in hand, and say "please sir, would you mind explaining your fabulous property to me". But then again, that would not be verifiable ;( --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:30, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
