Took a little while but claiming this review now. Will start soon!

Thanks for taking this on, IanTEB! Looking forward to reading your comments. joeyquism (talk) 15:17, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Life and career

[edit]
  • I would add his date of birth at the start of the first paragraph. If I'm missing a reason as to why not to do this, I still think the first citation would be preferably placed after his name in the opening paragraph rather than infobox.
  • Done.
  • Not a point I will force, but the interviewer parameters in citations has "interviewer-last" and "interviewer-first", which I believe is usually preferred when the full names of interviewers are provided. This would apply to Miller 2024, Miller 2021, Berlander 2014, Curry 2023, and Woods 2015
  • I haven't seen it done like this, though I've gone through with the suggestion.
  • "He currently lives in Asheville, North Carolina" - I would change add "As of 2024, he currently [...]" to prevent dating the statement. This would make the wording slightly repetitive with the previous sentence, but I think the date is more relevant here.
  • Done.

2000s–2014
  • Is there a better source for Mista Thug Isolation's description as a studio album? Both articles in [11] seems to favor mixtape; the xxlmag article calls it a mixtape and the Tiny Mix Tapes site is named... Tiny Mix Tapes.
  • Pitchfork, Spin, Stereogum, and Tiny Mix Tapes describe MTI as an album. I don't think the name of Tiny Mix Tapes is relevant (their name doesn't necessarily preclude them from reviewing albums, EPs, etc. - I think it's just a silly name), though your concern is valid. I can include a footnote here if you'd like, as I don't feel like appending another source to support the album description is appropriate here if it corroborates nothing else.
  • Mista Thug Isolation could be wikilinked in the sample caption
  • Done.
  • Verified: [6], [7], [8] (refers to "My Hood" as simply "Hood", but I'm assuming this is an error on the writer's end), [9], [12], [13], [14], [10], [17], [18]
  • The writer made an error there, yeah. Good catch!
2015–2018
  • "Sputnikmusic called it" → "Jots for Sputnikmusic called it"
  • Fixed.
  • The Sputnikmusic review describes the emotions on Oblivion Access as "Ugly, real baggage" which might be good to incorporate
  • Yeah, that works a bit better.
  • "The following day, he posted a statement on Facebook in which he recounted a three-month-long struggle with finding psychiatric care" - Not a huge problem, but I think "The following day, a post on his Facebook recounted [...]" (or something along those lines) could flow better
  • I think I like the current wording better, personally. Apologies.
  • Shouldn't THING S THATARE STUFF be amended to follow WP:ALLCAPS?
  • I wasn't sure of how to go about this while writing the article because of the unconventional spacings ("S" and "THATARE" aren't really words). Nevertheless, I've amended the title; let me know if this looks fine to you.
  • Verified: [20], [21], [22], [23], [25], [26], [2], [27], [28], [29], [30], [31], [32]
2019–present
  • "Music writers noted the album’s shift" - the apostrophe is curly whereas WP:CURLY advises for straight
  • "Folk Implosion-style ’90s breakbeat-slacker indie rock" - curly apostrophe again
  • Apologies; notes app can get annoying. Fixed.
  • I would wikilink Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern in the sample caption
  • Done.
  • Verified: [39], [40], [41], [42], [43], [44], [44] (again), [45], [46], [47], [48]

Artistry

[edit]
  • Several genres linked here are preceded in the Life and career section: experimental hip hop, black metal (though it is not linked), indie rock, lo-fi, horrorcore, Southern and East Coast hip hop.,
  • De-linked, and linked the first instance of black metal in the body.
  • Does Lyrics need to be split off into a sub-section when it is so short?
  • Merged into the first paragraph.
  • I'm probably just overlooking something, but I don't see a mention of addiction nor depressional lyrical themes in [63].
  • Ugh, you're right - I might have referenced the wrong article. I've added a new source to corroborate this (written by the same author in the same year - very likely a brain fart on my end).
  • Verified: [58], [59], [27], [39], [44], [45], [60], [61], [62], [64]

Impact

[edit]
  • Curry, Woods, and Earl Sweatshirt, are linked here after also being so in the Life section
  • "Miller's 2015 album Oblivion Access is the namesake of the Oblivion Access Festival in Austin, Texas" - this is repeated from info in the career section. All information about the festival may be better off moved here, including Lil Ugly Mane's two appearances.
  • Both fixed.
  • Verified: [65], [66], [67], [68], [69], [70]

Infobox, lead, misc.

[edit]
  • Both fixed. I rewrote the lead a little bit so that the bolded names aren't scattered across paragraphs.
  • Photos of Lil Ugly Mane are freely licensed and both audio samples have rationale and adhere to WP:SAMPLE
  • Verified: [1]

Conclusion

[edit]

This article is in pretty decent shape and I only had a few nitpicks. One larger issue for me personally could be that some releases are presented in rather short sentences and makes it hard to take it all in. For example, the final two paragraphs of the 2019–present provide a ton of collaborations but not with all that much context. I don't think this is really a problem for GA, but it could come up in an FA review, for example.

Thanks for the review again, IanTEB! I've addressed your comments above; feel free to let me know if I've made any mistakes so that I may rectify them. As far as your larger issue, I don't have any plans of taking this to FA, but if I decide to get back to this in a larger capacity, I'll be sure to refer back to your comments here. Looking forward to what you may comment next. joeyquism (talk) 16:09, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the response! All looks very good. New lyrics source checks out. I hope my last comment didn't sound rude, I do really like the article! Passing now IanTEB (talk) 16:36, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
