Album Sales
The following sales are on the net - http://www.beautifulmadonna.com/charts/albumven.html = 15m, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Top-Biggest-Selling-Madonna-Albums/lm/37BXBHN8JKB68 = 13.5m, http://charts.mlvc.org/CHThist.php = 11.4m, www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=41261&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 = 9.17m. In comparisons, the first link is always much higher than the rest - so inflated. So amended figure to 2nd link's figure (Amazon) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.234.242.196 (talk) 19:15, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
The Powers that Be
The article states,
"Act of Contrition" is produced by "The Powers That Be" (Madonna and Patrick Leonard).
and then further down, under personnel, lists Prince as a producer of Act of Contrition. Which is it? And can there be a citation as whenever it was revealed that "The Powers That Be" is a pseudonym any of these people used? I know it's being used tongue-in-cheek, but where was it announced who was the actual producers? Contributions/12.162.122.6 (talk) 17:31, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Additional notes
The assertion that "Spanish Eyes" was sometimes called "Pray for Spanish Eyes" needs a citation. I have the US cassette, and it refers to the song as "Spanish Eyes." Perhaps only some releases had the longer title? It wasn't universal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ww adh77 (talk • contribs) 01:30, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Why has this page been moved?
Why was this page moved from its simple name of "Like a Prayer" to "Like a Prayer (album)"? This seems very unnecessary. There is only 2 other articles with this name, one being a documentary which has no references and should be deleted or improved. JWAD talk 18:54, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with you. It should be moved back. --Legolas (talk2me) 13:14, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Legacy
Should be added a legacy section, this album is very important to pop music. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.0.136.66 (talk) 15:48, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Expansion of Legacy
Here's an extra link for the legacy section if not already included

Good article?
I've not given the article a rigorous reading, but it does seem close to meeting GA criteria for listing as a Good Article. Worth checking for bias, as it is a little inclined to pick out positive comments, and perhaps working on the lead to ensure all the main points of the article are mentioned (in particular that both contemporary and legacy reviews point out that this album was Madonna's (successful) attempt to be taken seriously), but overall it's a readable, informative and well sourced article. SilkTork ✔Tea time 22:18, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Expansiod needed?
This is regarded by many as one of Madonna's greatest albums and it's Legacy section is considerably smaller than her first album's one. Maybe an expansion is needed and a bit more of research. —Gheiratina (Touch~^) 19:47, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: No consensus. Cúchullain t/c 16:02, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Like a Prayer → Like a Prayer (album) – The album is less popular than the song. Therefore, either the song or the dab page should be primary. --Relisted Discussion is ongoing. Tyrol5 [Talk] 20:14, 28 January 2013 (UTC) --George Ho (talk) 19:12, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
- Comment. In my opinion a 20% difference is not enough to make it worth making the switch. Since there are only two it is better to use a hatnote for the other instead of using a disambiguation page. Apteva (talk) 04:35, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. The album is the main project, and the song is a part of it. The same with Like a Virgin / Like a Virgin (song) and Ray of Light / Ray of Light (song). Bluesatellite (talk) 07:40, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- The album title's inherited from the song, not the other way around. "Like a Virgin" should also be primary to the song/video. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 00:25, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Support the song and its video are the ones that generated general commentary from politicians, so is the more encyclopedic topic. The usage stats support disambiguation as primary form, but I think the song should sit at primary instead. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 00:03, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. This is not the only album whose title is based upon an non-action consensus created by default many years ago. Regardless the song is more viewed than the album, I see only a primary topic, the album. Our Madonna is more popular and "important" than any other Madonna, right? Why is she an "entertainer"?
- To the IP user, in case you didn't know disam pages needs at least one link, could you give one to the "general commentary from politicians"? Also, that commentary is based upon Madonna's records and she made it popular or Madonna tooked it and re-used it. Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:42, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I'm not sure I'm parsing your response properly. Politicians' commentary on the song "Like a Prayer" and its associated video is in what way related to all her other recordings? There was a fair bit of controversy concerning this song and its video, such as blaxploitation, a black Christ figure, blasphemy, etc. It is the song and its video that is the more encyclopedic and notable topic. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 05:42, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- Again, which is the link you want to be added to the disam page, Like a Prayer (idiom)? We need a link. Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 20:25, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose – The difference in page views isn't that much, only about 10-15%. If the song had 2-3 times as many views, maybe, but I think this is a case of trying to fix something that isn't broken. They've been the way they are for many many years with no issues. —Torchiest talkedits 05:25, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think you're missing the point. The song would get most of those views if it was correctly titled.Srsrox (talk) 16:55, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Support. Readers could be viewing Like a Prayer to view the song article, the fact that Like a Prayer (song) gets more views, I believe, warrants the move. Zarcadia (talk) 22:20, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: page moved, with Like a Prayer now pointing to the dab page. WP:TWODABS applies if one is the primary topic, which is not the case here. Miniapolis 14:10, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Like a Prayer → Like a Prayer (album) – It's been few months since unsuccessful request. Long-term significance for Madonna album and for song of the similar name equally weigh each other. The album has many memorable songs, while the titular song is notable predominantly due to controversy. However, the album is still less viewed than the song. Oops!... I Did It Again and ...Baby One More Time are right now songs, while their album counterparts are disambiguated, although they are Britney Spears songs. If the album becomes disambiguated, should the primary topic be Like a Prayer (song) or Like a Prayer (disambiguation)? George Ho (talk) 05:33, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- Support - difficult to disentangle from Like a Prayer (song) in Google Books, so fails WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Also difficult to argue WP:TWODABS though Like a Prayer (documentary) is only a redirect. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:19, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- Support clearly a disambiguation page or the song/video should be primary, not the album. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 07:21, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- Support, the same situation as "...Baby One More Time" and "Oops!... I Did It Again" the songs vs. ...Baby One More Time and Oops!... I Did It Again the albums. WikiRedactor (talk) 21:50, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose, nothing has changed. I added the doc because of twodabs, it was that or deletion. Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:23, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yet numbers of album and song are very close to each other, especially when "nothing has changed." --George Ho (talk) 01:28, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Nothing has changed from the RM above and today, I am not buying your idea. Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:35, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Curiously, how does the album's primacy outweigh the song's? To me, they are equally well-known, even when the album was the best-seller with other notable songs within. While this article discusses the album itself, the song page discusses a lot of details about the single song itself and its impact. Moreover, the above request resulted "no consensus" instead of "not moved", prompting me to wait until now. --George Ho (talk) 04:00, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose any move to disambiguate what is basically a WP:TWODABS situation. No opinion on primacy between the song and album, although readers will not be misled by having either at the primary topic title, since the song is on the album, and the album contains the song. bd2412 T 15:54, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

“Every important artist...”
On the article for “Like a virgin”:
“According to author J. Randy Taraborrelli, "Every important artist has at least one album in his or her career whose critical and commercial success becomes the artist's magic moment; for Madonna, Like a Virgin was just such a defining moment."”
On the article for “Like a prayer”:
“Taraborrelli wrote that Like a Prayer was a turning point's in Madonna's career; "Every important artist has at least one album in his or her career whose critical and commercial success becomes the artist's magic moment; for Madonna [...] Like a Prayer was. [Madonna] pushed onwards as an artist, using her creative wit to communicate on another level, musically."”
So... which is it ?
--Abolibibelot (talk) 01:59, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- It is both actually. The quote on p. 164 of the book says "For Madonna, Like a Virgin was just such a defining moment. Like a Prayer was another." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ww adh77 (talk • contribs) 13:34, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
Nominate article for GA status?
This article meets the GA criteria in WP:GA?, and so obtaining GA status would be likely, and would contribute to the Madonna WikiProject. The GA nomination is however recommended to be submitted by a significant contributor, if possible (as per WP:GANI). Theknine2 (talk) 01:15, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

Infobox and lead
- The release date is not written out anywhere in the body
- Done; written in release & promotion section Theknine2 (talk) 02:48, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Remove the ref for pop since they are discouraged in infoboxes and this is already sourced anyway
- Remove wikilink on studio album
- Regarding the release date, write it out and source in the body
- "on the album while co-writing" → "on the album, with her co-writing" because "while" can lead to confusion about the meaning
- "has been described as a confessional" → "is a confessional" since "described" is not appropriate lead terminology in this context, also the confessional record detail should be mentioned in comp as well as reception, as it is fully relevant there
- Could you put the quote into your own words since that is more appropriate for the lead and it's not a hard one to reword?
- "The album was dedicated" → "It was dedicated"
- "The album uses live instrumentation" → "Like a Prayer uses live instrumentation" and this needs to be mentioned in comp for the same reason as the confessional record part
- None of the elements are directly sourced in the body
- Wikilink lead single
- The themes of childhood and adolescence are not sourced in the body
- "received universal acclaim," → "received universal acclaim from music critics," with the pipe
- Here, you should use the above then write after the comma "who praised..." --K. Peake 09:00, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Instead of the Rolling Stone comment, mention what critics mostly praised about the album
- Mention countries that are included in the ones where it reached number one
- "were released from the album:" → "were released from it:"
- "and "Cherish" peaked at number two and" → "and "Cherish" both peaked at number two, and"
- "a top-ten hit." → "a top-10 hit." per MOS:NUM
- "Worldwide, the album" → "Worldwide, Like a Prayer"
- Remove the word "accompanying", as "the single's" specifies that these were the videos for them
- "was a lightning rod for religious" → "led to religious" because "lightning rod" is not encyclopaedic
- "and burning crosses, and a" → "and burning crosses. It also demonstrates a"
- "at its release." → "at the time of its release." but the expense is not sourced in the body
- Mention after the tour's name with a comma "which she used to promote it."
- "named "Artist of the Decade" by" → "named artist of the decade by"
Background
- Remove American singer-songwriter introduction since Madonna is the main person, so a lead intro is sufficient
- "caused her discomfort." → "caused Madonna's discomfort."
- Done; written as "caused discomfort for Madonna" Theknine2 (talk) 02:48, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Pipe Catholic to Catholic Church
- "and en-cash on" → "and en-cash for"
- The personal meditations part is unsourced
- "to record them"." → "to record them."" per this ending a sentence in the original quote
- "She decided to" → "Madonna decided to"
- Done Theknine2 (talk) 02:48, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Not done you missed this one --K. Peake 09:00, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- I had changed this part of the paragraph from "; she told SongTalk magazine "[...]"[1] She decided to take a more adult, sophisticated approach;..." -> "Madonna told SongTalk magazine "[...]"[1] She decided to take a more adult, sophisticated approach;..." Hence, indicating "Madonna" again would not be necessary. Forgot to clarify. Theknine2 (talk) 09:45, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oh very good you have clarified now, your wording is 100% correct now I have full context. --K. Peake 17:46, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Not done you missed this one --K. Peake 09:00, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- [6] should be solely at the end of the para because it is used for the last three sentences
- "She had certain matters" → "The singer had certain matters"
- "her lost mother and" → "her lost mother, and"
Development
- Cut down on much text is included in the quote box per WP:OVERQUOTE
- I could not find any of that text in the Yahoo! article, unless I missed something?
- Done, Removed the Yahoo citation as it was an error. Theknine2 (talk) 09:45, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- "was named after the influence of Catholicism on Madonna's early life" → "drew its title from Catholicism's influence on Madonna's early life,"
- Wikilink press release
- "a personal tone."" → "a personal tone"." per MOS:QUOTE regarding partial quotes
- "to do this"." → "to do this"". per the above on full sentences
