Adoption/Race

[edit]

Sissay had a recent and quite controversial comment piece in the Guardian on adoption and race (link). It provoked a response in Katharine Birbalsingh's Telegraph blog (link). Randomnonsense talk 02:00, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war and WP:BLP

[edit]

There seems to be an edit war underway at present, probably precipitated by this tweet by the article subject today, objecting to certain content. As it stands, the content is sourced as far as I can see, but it may fall foul of WP:BLP and/or WP:UNDUE. I think it may be time for page protection while we sort out what to do. Fob.schools (talk) 15:40, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. I have requested page protection at RFPP. aboideautalk 19:26, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fob.schools, It seems like a reasonable request for privacy reasons. I would be ok with removing it. The subject is requesting removal of personal details including clinical diagnoses. Per WP:BLPPUBLIC, this seems fair. – Broccoli & Coffee (Oh hai) 20:41, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not saying that I disagree, Broccoli & Coffee, but I'm curious as to how you got that out of BLPPUBLIC, given that it says "If an allegation or incident is noteworthy, relevant, and well documented, it belongs in the article—even if it is negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it."? aboideautalk 21:18, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Aboideau - Meant to link WP:BLPKIND instead, but regardless, I'm looking specifically at the subject's request of having a medical diagnoses removed. This isn't specifically mentioned on WP:BLP, but I'm applying a general "presumption in favor of privacy", along with Editors should make every effort to act with kindness toward the subjects of biographical material when the subjects arrive to express concern. I'm not suggesting removing information about the play, just one line as in this edit. – Broccoli & Coffee (Oh hai) 21:39, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. I agree, that revision is probably ideal. aboideautalk 21:51, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have to say I am uneasy about removing all mention of this performance, especially given that it is referenced to the Guardian. I think its quite possible to edit the text to remove anything about mental health issues, while maintaining a reference to the show. It was obviously quite seminal to his recovery and later works. I think it is quite precedent-setting to remove it entirely on request. Fob.schools (talk) 12:27, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
