death date
[edit]@Mewulwe: I don't understand this reversion. The La Nazione article has a dateline of "Firenze, 7 gennaio 2017" (Florence, 7 January 2017) and says "È morto la notte scorsa a Firenze Lelio Lagorio" (Lelio Lagorio died last night in Florence). How is that ambiguous? Nick Number (talk) 14:21, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- That is the night of January 6/7. Mewulwe (talk) 20:04, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if there's some Italian language nuance here that I'm unaware of, but that's not the way that sentence would normally be interpreted in English. If he died after midnight, it would say "this morning". In any case, I've added a second reference which specifies 6 January. Nick Number (talk) 03:59, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Well, here's another reference which specifies 7 January: http://www.sportolimpico.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1406:lagorio&catid=194:in-memoriam. This just proves the ambiguity. Even in English, "last night" would not necessarily mean the previous day. "This morning" would only be used if it was known he died after midnight. Often the exact time is simply not publicly known. Only some official or family source, a picture of the gravestone, etc. might be taken as definitive. Mewulwe (talk) 07:40, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
