lebron weighs 5 lbs not 250... nice try but i know him better now change that now before i call his lawyer

Please, please, please sign your comments on the talk page. This is one of the most lacking pages I have come across. Dujang Prang 02:32, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Someone should weed out all this newspaper lingo from the article, it doesn't sound encyclopedic at all. --Shallot 12:03, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Okay, I went through and cleaned up the worst instances. By the way, "set the tables" is one of my more favorite examples of mangled imagery that I've seen lately. Too bad I had to take it out. - Nat Krause 13:45, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

LeBron never committed to play for Maryland. In fact he stated that Ohio State was his primary choice for college. Also, Cleveland failed to make the playoffs his rookie.

I've cleaned up this article by deleting a bunch of POV crap about him being the greatest ever.

23 for Jordan... Incorrect.

Lebron actually didn't wear 23 for Michael Jordan, it was worn in honour of Bruce Flowers, another Cavaliers forward back in the day, as noted in an interview with Lebron in SLAM Magazine.

I don't know about that it's a well known fact he grew up idolizing Jordan. Tayquan hollaMy work 12:20, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Best. Ever.

Why is there no mention of LeBron's prescence on Olympic or NBA All-Star teams? By the way I think LeBron will one day be the best to ever play the game. Any thoughts?

-Derrick Becker

Interesting player - but in a big game it doesn't happen. A good offensive player start to exploit him and he disappears when the clock is ticking down. He will need the support of a team that probably doesn't need him to win a championship.

Choke factor

I am curious as to why this isn't a section. And no, I'm not anti-LeBron. I want to see him do very well in the league. But the collapses late in the game and/or season are something worth mentioning.

He does not hit clutch shots. Since entering the league, he has hit only 12% of his game-winning attempts and has only made 2 such shots. This is in contrast to the league average of 30%. For comparison: Carmelo Anthony (57%), Dwyane Wade (33%), Iverson (44%), Tracy McGrady (32%), Michael Redd (41%). [1] He goes quiet late in big games, misses late free-throws, and in fact, Coach Mike Brown even had Zydrunas Ilgauskas take his free-throws at one point.

Yea most likely one day he will be. Michael Jordan has big shoes to fill but on day he will. But as soon as i come into the league its over. I will be the next kobe or Lebron that will be me. So look out for me Brandon Chavers coming out of Downey,Ca. I am 14 so you wont see me for a while.peace K, to everyone, lebron is the best baller ever. no matter what, he's the best. lbj's my homie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                        -Brandon "Radical Boy" Chavers
hehe still think he's got the choke factor? It's called sample size. Now the public perception is he is "clutch." Oreo man 17:07, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

The Future

LeBron James.... Who doesn't know this mans name? No disrespect but Brandon Chavers Really doesnt know what he's talking about. If Lebron is the way you are trying to make him seem, why throughout the three seasons, has he made one of the biggest impacts on the NBA? Why is he one of the players always talked about? Why has he picked up one of the teams in the NBA that really wasn't a playoff team and turned it into one? He is not over rated, AND he in the running for MVP of this year! He was Rookie of the Year the 2003-2004 season (which was his first year) He came straight out of High School. Kobe did have the same hype when he first came in from High School and look what he's doing now. He's still doing big things in the NBA. Lebron James WILL be the next Micheal Jordan, he has the talent to be the next Micheal Jordan, he has put Cleveland on his back and lead them to the playoffs this year. I'm 15, I play AAU basketball for the Trail Blazers and I play for the Long Branch basketball team and LeBron James IS THE FUTURE!!!

                              -Ezra Kelly Jr-

I agree he's already the top 5/10 player in the NBA and hes only 20.

He isn't as good as Michael Jordan. Probably won't be. Kobe got this much hype when he first started, too.

(No he didn't. Kobe was drafted in the 9th spot and was regarded as having tremendous potential. Lebron was drafted 1st overall and signed an unprecedented $90 million contract with Nike before he ever played an NBA game. He is the youngest basketball player to grace sports illustrated- posing during his junior and senior years in high school. AND he was touted by most professional scouts and NBA people as the most outstanding young player they'd ever seen).

Why is Lebron's height listed at 6'9" in the article? he is definately not 6'9", when seen standing next to his teamate Drew Gooden for example who is 6'9", Lebron does appear slightly shorter. 6'8" 1/2 would be a more accurate listing. (Better check Drew Gooden's height again, cause he is not 6'9").

Edited the page to reduce POV, corrected LeBron's All-Star Status, this is his 3rd season, he did not make the All-Star team in 2004, made it 2005, and the team has not been named for 2006. Please refrain from editing that back in.

NPOV Issues

This is an encyclopedia not a fan site, please refrain from including passages that praise him beyond factual basis. i.e. it is too early to reference him as one of the greatest players of all time. -(Brodey)

I take some issue with this: "Since then, with his numerous acomplishments and rapid development he has arguably surpassed the unprecedented hype that surrounded him." Sure, it says "arguably," but considering the nature of the "unprecedented hype," it seems impossible to exceed it this early in his career (though I would say he's met it). --Jeff Greco 19:36, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Remove section

Removed the following: "Lebron James recently had a talk with Oscar Robertson, the only player in league history to average a triple-double for a season. Oscar Robertson said that Lebron is the only player in the league with the potential to do the same thing and proclaimed that he will accomplish this great feat before his career ends."

It was listed uner "Awards/Honors" This is an interesting piece of information, but is hardly encyclopedia worthy. It definitely isn't an Award or Honor. The last two items in "Awards/Honors" are questionable, but did not want to remove without discussion.

Would also recommend someone go through and remove some of the fluff.

-I agree this whole page seems way to praising of him and his abilities.

his "unselfishness"??

Why is it not a good thing to be unselfish on the court? Do they mean that he'd just as soon pass the ball as shoot it? If so, remember that Larry Bird was also known for that. As far as the clutch shots go, well, it's great if he can be known for that, but the best teams in NBA history did not get that way primarily through making those shots. They got that way through consistent excellent performance. If Lebron, during his career, can lead his team (and mine) to a championship series and be a good producer himself, that'd make me happy. Cleveland certainly could use that as well.

The Next Michael Jordan?

Should the fact that some people consider him as the enxt michael Jordan be included in his intro? i think it might be mentioned soemwhere else in the article.

So being the next Michael Jordan is supposed to be a good thing? Dujang Prang 20:25, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

What do you think. GOAT. end of story.

Do you mean Michael Jordan is GOAT, Lebron James is GOAT, or are you asking what I think of LL Cool J.'s GOAT album? The whole "next Michael Jordan" thing cannot be proven. Ever. You can include him in the "best ever" arguments, but "next Michael Jordan" is impossible. (I think it's a ludicrous distinction anyway, but that's my POV). Dujang Prang 02:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Clutch assists, clutch rebounds = still clutch

LeBron is awsome, and I'd just like to point out that he is NOT bad in the cluth, I've seen him many times get clutch rebounds, blocks, assists (vs TOR, he has the last second assist to Jones to score a three, they won by one point), etc.

Of course he's having a hard time SCORING in the last minutes, who do you think is getting double teamed?

Stength and Weaknesses Section

I think the lebron criticism section should be replaced with a strenght and weakness section, similar to what is on the pages of players like steve nash, shaq and Yao Ming. what do you think? -Brodey

"James's third year of high school he won the marathon and is a hero. contributed more to the phenom's impressive stats as James averaged 29.7 points and 8.4 rebounds" ...

Yeah, this needs cleaning up. Eccomi 23:11, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Marathon?

The "Junior Year" section included a reference to James winning the marathon which I could not confirm anywhere, and regardless seems incredibly doubtful. It has been removed.

Vandalism

It sure is annoying having to clean up the constant vandalism on this page.

Just wanted to say that...i know its always happening on tons of pages. regards, --Morriss 19:32, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Unless it get's really out of hand like a group of malicious users i don't think it needs semi-pretection yet. --Duhon 7 June 2006 (UTC)

agreed. --Morriss 22:56, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Weasel words

There seems to be a good deal of weasel words popping up in the player profile section:

Some believe that James is the best player in the league, though Kobe Bryant seems to be the more widely accepted choice for that title at the moment. Recently, after winning his first NBA championship, there are some that actually consider Dwayne Wade to be the best player in the league, though he played on the Miami Heat where he found much more help from his teammates than James did.

What Lebron has done at such a young age is unprecedented. He is considered to be the best 21 year old player to ever play the game of basketball. For this reason, there are several that expect Lebron James to possibly even eclipse Michael Jordan as a player, and take on the title as the best basketball player to ever play the game.

I think this whole passage shold be redone or deleted. Duhon June 23rd 2006

  • Agreed. It's LEBRON JAMES' Biography, why the hell is there mention of Dwayne, Kobe, etc.? Just drop facts, POV

The anti-lebron link keeps getting deleted. People, there is no logical distinction between fan site links, etc. and non-fan link sites. They are all equally relevant. If non-fan links have to go, then all fan links should have to go. Also, the links section is not part of the encyclopedia entry (statements of fact regarding a person/place/thing), but links to additional resources.

Nike Deal

ESPN's Bill Simmons as well as John Holllinger (others I'm sure too) report that many people around the league say that in James Nike deal he gets paid significantly more if he plays in NY, LA of Chicago. It is still a rumor, but is spouted by some pretty legit people so I decided to put it in the article. Does anyone know one way or the other? Also whould we quote Simmons or Hollinger about the rumor?

Simmons mentioned it in a recent article, but everything goes to ESPN In$ider after 12 hours, so citing it is pointless. Simmons says he gets it from credible sources, so do we say "People who know people who know people say..." Dujang Prang 20:20, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Off the court

What about Lebron's charity activities in Ohio? Please add a section on this if known.

Academics

What about something about him besides basketball? Like did he do well in academics. The Wikipedia on Kobe Bryant talks about his SAT score.

Declaring for NBA as a junior

This article states Lebron petitioned to go to the NBA after his junior year of high school. I'm pretty sure I've read a quote by him that says he never even thought about going after his junior year.

PER

I made an edit some time ago stating that LeBron James was second in PER in 2005-06 to Dirk Nowitzki, not Kevin Garnett. Someone recently changed it back. Based on the reference, it appears that the editor was not looking at PER, but at a metric called "efficiency," which the NBA tracks, but isn't useful to any basketball statisticians and is like PER but much, much more flawed in very obvious ways. That James was second in efficiency is not worth mentioning. I have changed the article to say that James finished second to Nowitzki, and I have changed the referred website to a site that provides a statistical summary of the 2005-06 NBA season, including the top five in the league in PER. Garnett was fifth, not first (though he did finish first each of the previous two years). Hpanic7342 04:01, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

The person was probably confused, as I believe that Garnett is ahead of James in CAREER PER.--TyrusThomas4lyf 00:54, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

OSU for college

I think it needs to be pointed out that, while he did say OSU would have been his choice for college while he was on The Daily Show, that whole week's worth of episodes were filmed from OSU, so that could have influenced his answer. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.166.44.117 (talk) 06:58, 22 December 2006 (UTC).

Youngest ever to score 2000 points

The article states that LeBron was the youngest to ever score 2000 points in a season, and to average 30 ppg for a season, both in the 2005-2006 season. But in reality, he had already scored 2175 points in the 2004-2005 season, so a whole year ealier.

LeBron's Myspace?

So can someone confirm that the Myspace page that is linked at the bottom is actually him? I'm not convinced, seeing that the page has only 260 friends, including "The real Dwayne Wade" and such...

Not saying it isnt, but could someone check? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Brytbryan (talkcontribs) 21:50, 7 January 2007 (UTC).

This is clearly not LeBron James' MySpace, number of factors contribute to this:

-unprofessional layout (used 3rd party image site and slideshow, frames are out of proportion, punctuation/grammar errors, pics section doesnt work)

-lack of friends (only 270)

-no other team mates or fellow basketball players in top 8

-if you look at his number 1 friend, it's a lady who lacks 'class' uses bad language and claims to be LeBron James' 'girl', I dont believe he would taint his reputation by having her as his number 1 friend. one of the greast basketpalyers

Meet the LeBrons Commercials

Anyone know anything about these? They look funny XD

Main Picture

Is it possible to get a different picture for this article? The current one is quite blurry and of poor quality.

We're using this picture here: http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=471799008&size=o in the body of the article. however lebron appears quite small on the version posted on his page. I was wondering if anyone could crop it somehow, to make it focus mainly on james only? I believe it could be used for the main profile picture in that case.Duhon 06:43, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Arbitrary stat cutoff marks

Please, please please PLEASE people stop with the arbitrary cutoffs for player's stats. These are typically glaringly obviously done for the purpose of trying to glorify a player. I mean, are you serious? Have you ever considered how many of these "only player to log X pts, Y rebs, Z asts" lines we could come up with for all the players in the history of the game? Do you realize that we could literally come up with THOUSANDS of combinations for players like Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain? Are some of these stat combinations impressive? Yes, in the rare instance. Are most of them? No. Here, I bet you that Steve Nash is the only point guard to shoot over 87%, 88% and 89% from the free throw line. Does that imply that he's on the same level with Magic Johnson? I should hope you don't think so. Most of these stat lines aren't notable. A few are okay, like "one of three players to average 20, 5 and 5 as a rookie", but not marks like "one of two to average 25, 7 and 6". Guess what? We could probably find a list of ten players that haven't logged 25, 7 and 6, but have logged 30, 6 and 5 or 25, 10 and 5 or 30, 4 and 8. I've said my piece. TyrusThomas4lyf 7:36, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Ordinarily, I'd completely agree with your cutoff remarks. But, the marks that are cited in the article are not entirely random, they were cited by nba.com and espn; so I wouldn't exactly classify it as fancruft. However, I do agree that it should be limited as part of a season summary and not as a "Record" or "Milestone." Otherwise, it detracts from LeBron's actual accomplishments. Feel free to comment fellas. Zodiiak 00:39, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Let me give you an example. We deleted a lot of similar stat combinations from Dwyane Wade's page because these are usually not that notable and they provide a skewed look at a player's accomplishments compared to his competitors. While I agree that a few are alright if they are notable, like 25, 5 and 5 as a rookie, or recording a triple-double in a playoff debut (I guess, although hardly any rookies have ever been given the opportunities afforded to LBJ), a cutoff like 27, 6 and 6 is just unacceptable. I could come up with 100 such cutoffs and list them all under "Wilt Chamberlain" or "Michael Jordan" or "Larry Bird", for instance. What would that accomplish?--TyrusThomas4lyf 00:53, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Again, I'm not arguing that it can be distracting, if done in excess, such as being listed as a Milestone or Record, but when it's noted as part of a season summary, I think that's fine. Here's how ESPN summarized his season. Zodiiak 01:00, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

These stats are not arbitray at all, as well we did not just make them up. These are very prominent statistics brought up numerous times in the media as well in official NBA bio's and statements. The fact that only a few players have averaged those statistics are noteworthy. As well what gives you the authority to decide what is abritrary and what is not? I've seen numerous media mentions of lebron joining oscar in the 27 6 6 club. In national broadcasts and in print media. If they see it as noteworth why would wikipedia not? this is not original research here, this is reporting what others in prominent positions have reported themselves Duhon 05:21, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

No they are hardly notable. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. The media will do whatever it can to glorify a modern player's accomplishments because a huge void has been left since the retirement of Jordan. It is all a business, and so it is to their advantage to talk about how a certain player can achieve some random cutoff because he will draw more money into the business. Yeah, 27 points. I hear about that point line all the time, LOL. Sorry, but I don't think so. I know you're not making them up. But you can do the same thing for any player in history. There is no "27 6 6 club". Players are not aiming to achieve 27, 6 and 6. There are players who have averaged 30, 6, 5 for instance. See above for morehttp://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/4728912.html05:33, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

You are getting close to the 3 revert rule here. The fact is if it comes down to the position of taking the side of the mainstream media or that of TyrusThomas4lyf wikipedia will side with media. By all means if you find authoritative media mentions on the statistical feats of other players do inlcude. Everything here is cited numerous times. Regardless of your own opinion of the media, it holds more credibility here than you do. There was no "27 6 6 club" prior to lebron joining oscar robertson. Which is why the feat is noteworthy. As is the 37 7 6 feat which played a large factor in lebron MVP case in 06 (if the united states basketball team feels it is worth of mention, why should it not be included here?). I plead with you to let this rest. You are basing this on your personal opinions and nothing more. I as well plead with you to wait until we can get more opinions on this before you make anymore edits. Duhon 05:42, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree with including the stats. They are often mentioned. Tayquan hollaMy work 00:39, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
A cutoff such as 27, 6 and 6 is clearly random and selected in order to elevate the appearance of a player. How can you deny this? Fine, I'll go post crazy and attach 30, 10 and 20s to Wilt and 30, 8 and 5 to Jordan and lots of random combinations for Larry Bird for which Bird is "one of only X players" to attain such a cutoff. Think about it. These "achievements" are already not really notable. They're just pulled statistics looked at from a particular angle. We're already allowing a few that at least have some merit. Outside of this, adding more dilutes the integrity and relevance of the article.--TyrusThomas4lyf 04:47, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Lets get rid of all references in all the basketball pages to double-doubles as well. It's just an arbitrary cutoff point. The stats are referenced. Several people here have agreed they are notable. If you'd like to find sources that support your post crazy run, feel free. I have a feeling you'll have a pretty hard time finding them for truly random totals. Yes, these are stats looked at from a particular angle. I think the angle is worth looking from, and so did a few reliable sources. I won't be upset if consensus is reached and they aren't there anymore in a few days, but they should be there right now. You appear to be the only one here that disagrees with that. Please get consensus here before removing them again. And please watch out for 3rr. --OnoremDil 10:02, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

A double-double isn't arbitrary. It requires attaining double figures in two statistics. Nevertheless, yeah, double-doubles are not that valuable of a statistic because a player will frequently score 15 points, grab 9 rebounds and have 8 assists. For similar reasons, 27, 6 and 6, is a ridiculously arbitrary cutoff. I don't need to "find supprt" for putting in the same type of figures for every other player in NBA history. The stats simply exist already. I can put down 1000 different stat combinations, each which only one player has. Notice how LeBron James is the only player you've chosen to do this for...--TyrusThomas4lyf 21:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

It's three to one against you Tyrus, consensus is not on your side. Tayquan hollaMy work 22:40, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Then in order to maintain consistency, you must enter this data for every other player in NBA history. If you do not, I will continue to remove it. Good luck.--TyrusThomas4lyf 22:46, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Tyrus, see this Wiki-Guideline. I know you feel strong in your opinions, but for the most part, you're out-voted. Don't result to this behavior. Zodiiak 22:54, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
So I'll repeat that you have to enter this in for every other player in history then. Good luck.--TyrusThomas4lyf 00:42, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Choosing to edit this article obligates nobody to do anything for any other article.
As far as "I don't need to "find supprt" for putting in the same type of figures for every other player in NBA history. The stats simply exist already. I can put down 1000 different stat combinations, each which only one player has."..

Picking out your own arbitrary numbers would be considered original research. Reliable sources have made 27, 6, and 6 notable by reporting about it.

"Notice how LeBron James is the only player you've chosen to do this for..."

I haven't chosen to do anything except revert changes made against consensus to an article I have on my watchlist because it's frequently vandalized. --OnoremDil 02:08, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Wrong again. The only reason you want to include this is because it is modern news. You must be joking if you don't think that these types of stupid comparisons have been made since the beginning of time, and that I couldn't find sources for each and every one of them. Once again, note how these types of arbitrary stat cutoff "achievements" are not included for any other player in history.--TyrusThomas4lyf 03:25, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
The items you chose to remove were both taken from reputable sources (USA BB, Houston Chronicle). That's certainly enough to meet the requirements of WP:V and WP:A. Others have pointed out your fallacious comparison to other articles. The only real argument here is whether the items are too trivial to warrant inclusion, and you seem to be the only person who believes that they are indeed too trivial. Your continued deletion of the material suggests an agenda, or at least an unwillingness to compromise. As others have done, I will take this opportunity to warn you about WP:3RR. Simishag 03:35, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to summarize. After consensus, the stats will be included. Failure to acknowledge consensus is viewed as vandalism, and will result in increased warning levels, and blocking. This is the only time I'll warn you, TyrusThomas4lyf, for both this page and Career achievements of LeBron James. Zodiiak 05:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey fellas. I've been working on giving this article a bit of a face lift and have noticed that there are too many sections. It makes the article more lengthy than it should be, which goes against Wikipedia's section management policy. I propose making subarticles for LeBron's achievements (similar to Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain), and possibly his HS career. An alternative to the subarticles, for his HS career, would be to summarize it into maybe a paragraph or two. But, I definately think the achievements section should be moved to a subarticle. Feel free to comment. Zodiiak 15:55, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree about the sub-article on lebron's acheivements. I suppose it should be similar in vein to what's on the dwyane wade page. I don't think his HS career neds its own page but a detailed paragraph or two should suffice, as long as it does not leave out too much. Duhon 20:48, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Alright sounds good. I moved the detailed information to : Career achievements of LeBron James. Also, I removed two sections; the trivia section (unencyclopedic) and the ad/promo section (where the info can be merged) and created a new section: Personal life. I've added some of the notable trivia into this section and will also expand on it with info from the short ad/promo section that was removed. I have to add some more info, but in the meantime, feel free to edit or comment. Hopefully we make this a good article candidate. Zodiiak 02:35, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Major LeBron James 2014 edits

Team,

In recent weeks, the user DJSkippyB has made major edits to the 2014 section, expanding what used to be three sentences into three paragraphs:

On March 3 at the American Airlines Arena, James set regular season career-highs and single game franchise records in scoring with 61 points and 22 field goals made in a 124-107 win over the Charlotte Bobcats.[144] In addition to surpassing the previous franchise record of 56 held by Glen Rice that stood for nearly nineteen years, James' 61-point performance was the first 60-point game in Miami Heat history as well as in his career. It was also the second-highest point total of the season, only behind Carmelo Anthony's 62-point game in which Anthony tallied 23 field goals made on January 24 at Madison Square Garden, also against the Bobcats. James also set career-highs with 37 points in the second half and 25 points in the third quarter. His 37 points tied Anthony for most points in any half by an individual player in the season. James started the game 8-for-8 from 3-point range, tying another career high but would finish the night 8/10 on 3-point shooting. He did all this while wearing a protective face mask due to nose injury a few weeks earlier.
Both James and Oklahoma City Thunder Forward Kevin Durant were having stellar seasons and were expected to finish atop the MVP ladder in what was a great MVP race. After intense media speculation, it was confirmed that James fell just short of his third straight MVP Award as he finished 2nd in MVP voting to much anticipated winner Kevin Durant.[145] Had James won MVP, it would have been his fifth career MVP which would have tied him with Michael Jordan for 2nd all-time behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's six MVPs. Throughout the year he was one of the few staples for a Heat roster that used 20 different starting line-ups due to injuries,[146] finishing with averages of 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game on 56.7 percent shooting.[72]
In the 2014 NBA Playoffs, the Miami Heat swept the Charlotte Bobcats in Eastern Conference First Round play. He tied a career postseason-high by scoring 49 points in Game 4 of the Conference Semifinals against the Brooklyn Nets.[147]

In my opinion, most of this information should be removed for the following reasons:

1) No other sections of the article devote this much space to one season

2) Most of the information is not important enough to be included. We don't need a whole paragraph on the 61-point game. We don't need a summary of the MVP race, especially considering it wasn't even that close.

3) There is still a Finals series left to be played, so the text will only get longer, possibly sneaking into four paragraphs.

My proposed edit is:

On March 3 of the 2013-14 season, James scored a career-high and franchise record 61 points in a game against the Charlotte Bobcats. Throughout the year he was one of the few staples for a Heat roster that used 20 different starting line-ups due to injuries,[146] finishing with averages of 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game on 56.7 percent shooting. In the playoffs, he tied a career postseason-high by scoring 49 points in Game 4 of the Conference Semifinals against the Brooklyn Nets. Miami eventually defeated the Pacers in the Conference Finals to earn their fourth consecutive finals berth, becoming one of only five teams (or whatever) in league history to do so.--Ktmartell (talk) 14:00, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
As no one said anything all day, I went ahead and made the change, but I would still like to discuss if anyone disagrees with my edit.--Ktmartell (talk) 00:23, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Dos and Don'ts

I have seen a lot of edits recently that, unless I am simply wrong, are not necessary. These include but are not limited to:

- Writing entire paragraphs about single games - Talking about honors such as the All-Defensive team in the 2014 section - Talking about first round scoring averages in the 2014 section

As a general rule of thumb, my understanding is that you shouldn't write whole paragraphs about single games, you shouldn't talk about things like All-NBA and All-Star teams every year, and you don't need to summarize every round of the playoffs. I hate to be the guy undoing every edit, but there is truly no need for all that, especially if it is un-cited, which has often been the case.

If I am off base, please let me know. Otherwise, please take these things into account. Thank you.--Ktmartell (talk) 14:47, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Accuracy re: 2014 Finals

The latest edits (earlier today) by Sxg169 contain a huge inaccuracy. At the end of the Professional Career section, this user changed the last sentence to "The Heat lost the Finals to the Spurs, four games to one. In the first game of the series, James missed most of the game due to leg cramps." This is inaccurate, as the box score http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400559374 shows that Mr. James played 33 minutes of the 48-minute game. An accurate statement would read, "James left the game early in the 4th Quarter due to leg cramps." I do not understand why Sxg169 felt the need to edit this sentence, as the earlier versions were accurate. Such inaccuracies lead to questioning the bias of a user, and should be avoided. --docciavelli (talk) 14:58, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

He is still a miami heat player. He just wants to explore his options right now. So whoever put he is not a miami heat player is wrong, and they should change that. Cleveland Cavaliers (2014–)

LeBron James announced on July 11 2014 that he would resign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he announced in a column on SportsIllustrated.com. "My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now," he wrote.

He spent four years in Miami after leaving Cleveland, his hometown, in 2010. After two championships, he's going back to the Cavs.

"In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have.

"I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home."

Change to Cleveland

This should not have been changed yet. He has committed to Cleveland but as Wikipedia requests, the contract has not been signed. This is likely but not official yet. Shouldn't this still read Miami Heat until then? cliffsteinman -- Discuss 19:46, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Additionally, I don't think it's out of line to leave it there as this should definitely end up working out. ESPN reports that the Cavaliers learned of his decision when everyone else did, this would mean a contract wasn't yet signed. I've added Pending Contract to the two mentions in the infobox as I feel that allows this 99% sure thing to have a caveat, making it truly a fact...I guess :D Please remove this change when a contract is officially signed, cite the source!! cliffsteinman -- Discuss 20:01, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
Per WP:BLP, "We must get the article right." An announcement will come shortly if a contract is signed, so there is no need to put misleading information in that he is a member of the Cleveland yet. As he is a free agent, he is not currently affiliated with Miami either. I'm OK with leaving that he intends to join Cleveland, but don't mislead that he is actually a part of the team yet. Social Media Reports decision Before Mainstream Media

For the first time ever, members of social media and the general public broke the impending free agent choice of Lebron James returning to Cleveland before the traditional media. Historically, free agent choices were first broken by well known sports outlets, such as ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CNN, Fox News, etc. During the 2014 summer free agent season in Cleveland , several local non-media sources first reported James was returning to Cleveland through popular social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. Local Cleveland personal trainer Josh Teplitz was the first to break the news, nearly a month before the official announcement. Later, a week before the official announcement, Caroline's Cupcakes, a cupcake bakery in nearby Canton, Ohio, went to their official Facebook page to announce that sources had confirmed that James return was a "done deal". Both Teplitz and Caroline's Cupcakes received vast amounts of scrutiny, before the official announcement was confirmed on July 11th by James through Sports Illustrated. Both Teplitz and Caroline's Cupcakes received widespread media coverage leading up to James official announcement, giving creedence to the fact that social media is now a legitimate source for not just breaking news stories, but sports stories as well.

According to Sheridan, LeBron only held out a 10% chance on returning to the Heat based on what Pat Riley might offer. When he met with him Wednesday and didn't become convinced, that's when he fully committed to the Cavs. LesVegas (talk) 02:24, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

At the risk of being pedantic, is there anything that suggests a contract has been signed? At #Change_to_Cleveland above and in a lot of edit summaries that led up to full protection, a lot of editors said "a contract has not been signed." While this is on the Cavs website now, the article you mentioned does not explicitly mention a contract. This quote from the article isn't very definitive either: "Right now, it’s time to embrace the eventual return of perhaps the greatest athlete in the history of a long-suffering city." I'm ambivalent about whether his name on the roster should be considered the equivalent of a done deal. Other's should weight in to reach a consensus. Either we say he is signed. or list him as a free agent. since the current state of the page is embarrassing.—Bagumba (talk) 18:56, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

I just noticed the deletion of File:Kingkongposter2.jpg and its removal from LeBron James based on discussion at Wikipedia:Non-free content review/Archive 54#LeBron James. I see Stefan2 nominated this content, Masem supported and TLSuda closed. I think this is a matter of the content in the article having been deficient. The 1933 image was the more important image because the LeBron/Gisele image was at the time of the 75th anniversary of the movie. The 1917 image is a bit of a throwaway. I don't know what we can do about this, but comments are welcome on this matter. Of course, I am not sure how important a topic this is in LeBron's bio.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:28, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

It may be a matter of content, but it is also a WP:NFCC issue which trumps the content issue. TLSuda (talk) 11:44, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Right. About the importance to the topic though, I rather enjoyed seeing the two movie posters compared in this manner. Being that the subject of the article is very prevalent in pop-culture, references and satire are often portrayed in print and capturing these moments tastefully (usually sparingly) is important to a well-rounded article. Also key to content like this is, will this event or information which is current now still be significant when it becomes historic? That's always one of the struggles with BLP. To me, his current level of fame and media coverage will be significant when referring to him in the future. Mainstream media covers like the one pictured are also good support of notability, although notability is already apparent. As far as the 1917 or 1933 image choice. I think a reader would appreciate the comparison, so they have a reference point, and if they wanted to look further into it they would find that that cover was for the 75th anniversary. The comparison image would only serve as just that, not as an informational content item. Overall, I think the current layout serves its desired purpose. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 13:19, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
While it might have been the 75th anniversary, was the anniversary pertinent in the arguments for/against the Vogue cover? I can't find any evidence of it being significant at least in the existing sources in the article. At best, I think one poster is relevant to provide a visual comparison to support the controversy described in the text. Whether that is the current one or the one deleted is probably irrelevant; what is clear is that two is excessive without supporting text in the article that justifies the inclusion of another King Kong poster.—Bagumba (talk) 23:39, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Shoot, that's exactly what I was saying but I noticed I said "the two movie posters" but I meant the two images. The Vogue cover alone isn't good enough but it sounded like I was supporting the exact opposite...my comment should be read from the tone that one movie poster/two complimentary images are a great addition, no need for a third image! Potential content to be removed

Resolved

Do we really need a paragraph that talks about LeBron's tweets about his faith? I don't think it's very useful information. It's also kind of misleading because it makes it seem like faith is a significant part of LeBron's public life, when in reality he almost never brings it up.

Do we need two pictures under the International section? It looks very cluttered on a computer with a larger screen.

I would like to remove both of these things. Thoughts?--Ktmartell (talk) 04:12, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

If you're talking about the second paragraph of the Personal Life section I can see what you're saying. Additions of content should always consider, "does this make the article better", in any way. I don't see where this adds anything of value the way it's written. Care should always be taken when removing content though. Is there a way you could change the wording to where it does "improve" the article? He certainly doesn't mention faith much but making statements about God on Twitter and such would say something at least to having faith in general. Maybe that's even a way to pitch it. I'll have to check out the page on my 50" and see what the pictures look like. The two look ok on regular screens though. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 17:26, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
To be honest, I don't know that I could change the faith section to be used in a useful way. The only conclusion I can draw from the information there is that LeBron believes in God and sometimes references it during interviews. Is that really a useful sentence to be somewhere? I don't think so, but I am interested to hear people's thoughts.
On my work computer (which I think is 15.6'), the two Olympic pictures and one in the Player Profile section basically combine together into one long block of images. I remember when we were nominating the article for GA status we were told to remove a lot of pictures because of overload, and what we currently have is more cluttered than anything we had back then. I feel strongly we should remove one of the pictures for this reason. Objections?

With regards, AnupamTalk 22:34, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
I've tried and tried to think of a way to adjust that. To consider: does this improve the article, is this statement Due or Undue WP:weight, combined/added to additional information? Two conclusions: a small social media section that would also include his jersey number decision being up to Instagram and some other notable social media content; or remove this small paragraph as it doesn't have much weight toward the subject of the article or the "majority" consensus of the subject, again WP:weight. While he does mention God in person and social media, it is no way a focus of the subject. Consider this, should every BLP state the subject's faith? I would say no. Unless having faith, lack of faith, or stance on faith is important to the subject or the article itself in some way. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 15:50, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
Ah, Cliffsteinman, have you come over to the dark side? Do you agree that the paragraph should now be removed? I definitely don't think we need to add a social media section.--Ktmartell (talk) 20:39, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Ok, ok. I will make a more concrete statement, which I was avoiding, since there has been more discussion. I really try to avoid removing content if it does have merit and citations. This bit of info does have merit, just not in its current environment. If I could think of better wording or some accompanying information that would make it stand on its own then I'd submit that. However, as it stands the facts are: this information is not significant to the article as written, it places undue weight on the subject which is not substantiated in other sources. I think it should be removed, but I would encourage the editor who included it to consider posting a more complete edit for approval on this talk page, if they still think it's notable enough to the article as a whole. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 22:21, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Well I mentioned my usual preference is that content isn't removed, rather expanded where possible. However, I couldn't think of a way this could be worked in. I'm, therefore, not behind trimming it down, as that would take away even more from it's significance to the article. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 02:13, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
@Anupam: I think it's undue mention, piecing together sentences from here and there to push a theme. I see how some readers would be curious if he associates himself with a religion. Is there a reliable sources that supports that he is a Christian, Catholic, etc? If so, a simple statement stating as much in the article would be fair.—Bagumba (talk) 02:18, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Again, should every BLP make a statement of faith? I wonder many things about many people but I wouldn't expect them all to be listed in an encyclopedia, especially if they're more ancillary topics to the subject. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 12:37, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Cleaning up citations

Guys,

I want to make sure our citations are as clean as possible. In some instances I am seeming "publisher=" and "website=", both for simple references to ESPN.com. Which is more correct? Should we use both when referencing a site like ESPN or Basketball Reference?

Another thing: When an article was written by the Associated Press, do we need to mark Associated Press as the author? Thanks!--Ktmartell (talk) 13:35, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Image Replacement

Do you feel it is appropriate to replace the current image listed in the Professional career - Rookie season (2003–04) section File:LeBronWizards1.jpg with an image of him during the 2004 Rising Stars Challenge? File:2004 Got Milk Rookie Challenge - LeBron James.jpg The reason being is that the later image was actually taken during his 2003-04 rookie season and thus would be more appropriate for that section, as the former image was taken in 2006. Please share your thoughts. Thank you. Djrun (talk) 19:23, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Should the List of 40-plus point games by LeBron James be included in the "see also" section, or should it not?

  • Hi Bagumba, Thank you for your response. I see that James already has a link to his career achievements. His career achievements already include some of the info from the 40-plus point article. I made the article on his games of 40-plus points really detailed to match other articles about scoring achievements, as they all are detailed like that. Robert4565 (talk) 05:11, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
  • Yes - of course it should be added. Kobe Bryant has the same type list in his "see also" section, and that list of 40+ games was a former featured list candidate. It is obviously notable. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:40, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Bagumba,

Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout says that the "see also" section is supposed to lead readers to explore tangentially related topics. This means that it would help to include List of 40-plus point games by LeBron James into the "see also" section even if his career achievement page does cover some of what the 40-plus point page says. Don't forget that LeBron has many notable 40-plus point games that are not included in his career achievement page. Robert4565 (talk) 03:12, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

I think a "see also" in List of career achievements by LeBron James to List of 40-plus point games by LeBron James is sufficient. That would be the cleanest hierarchy of "see also" IMO, instead of cluttering the main bio.—Bagumba (talk) 03:25, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

the penis flash

I think this deserves a mention in the article. Its not every day ABC shows a penis on live TV. In this source they rightly compare this incident to the magnitudinal Janet jackson-timberlake nipple incident.http://www.torontosun.com/2015/06/12/abc-accidentally-shows-lebron-james-penis-on-broadcast

It does not deserve a mention in the article at all. —DangerousJXD (talk) 04:12, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
This is nowhere near the "magnitude" of the Janet Jackson incident. The Jackson incident gained far more exposure, was much more intentional, and resulted in fines from the federal government. Tiptoety talk 04:13, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

No need to be hostile. The original source I provided made the assertion that they were similar in magnitude. Do you have a source saying they aren't similar in magnitude or is that just your opinion? Opinions don't really fly too far here without reliable sources. I don't know who you guys think you are, but your conservative editing styles are not welcome here. I typed "lebron james penis" into google news (with quotations to search for the phrase). There were 4,723 hits including the national post, the guardian and TMZ. What would it take to get a mention, a personally addressed letter from the pope? Saying that "it didn't get attention" when there are over 4000 news articles is a very obtuse observation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.228.78.208 (talk)

Conservative editing styles are welcome and preferred here, especially on WP:BLP issues. There's no rush to put it in the article. --Onorem (talk) 22:48, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
WP:BALASPS advises to exercise caution with recent events. It'd be more convincing if it's still receiving coverage days later. Otherwise, it's just kind of random to say he showed his junk.—Bagumba (talk) 23:03, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

I'd like other editors' feedback on including this link in the External Links section: [1]

It is not derogatory in any way and is likely to be interesting to fans of LeBron, residents of Cleveland, OH, and genealogy enthusiasts alike. According to WP:SPS, "Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established expert on the subject matter, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications." The author fits that bill, as her research has been quoted/covered in a variety of highly respected newspapers, including two front-page articles in The New York Times, one on the First Lady's roots and the other regarding the first person to come through Ellis Island. [2][3] See also here [4], as well as Megan Smolenyak.

On the other hand, I've read the policies at WP:BLP and know that "External links about living persons, whether in BLPs or elsewhere, are held to a higher standard than for other topics." So I wanted to gather a consensus and feedback from others, rather than just adding the genealogical article to the External Links, although I have no doubt the source is reliable and verifiable.

How do others weigh out the various factors? Thanks for your help!Nicole.Paull (talk) 16:18, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

"Seedier parts of Akron"

Hi! the beginning of the article states that he lived "from apartment to apartment in the seedier neighborhoods of Akron while James' mother struggled to find steady work" which is sourced in a Biography. Is that word correct in an encyclopedic way? seems to be either not formal enough or even an opinion. Maybe somebody that knows their stuff better -like a mod- should weight in.

My issue is not wether South Akron was "seedy" or not in the 80s, it's about the correcto use of adjectives in an article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.111.84.98 (talk) 13:43, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Grammar stuff

This sentence could be edited for clarity and for the use of the word "respectively," which is misused here: "He is only the second player in NBA history who appeared in the Finals three times with two different teams, respectively, after Dennis Rodman (Detroit Pistons 1988–90, Chicago Bulls 1996–98)." It could be edited as follows: "He is only the second player in NBA history to appear in the Finals three times each with two different teams, after Dennis Rodman (Detroit Pistons 1988–90, Chicago Bulls 1996–98)."

In this sentence, the word "at" is incorrect: "Standing at 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m)" It should say simply: "Standing 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m)"
