Neutrality / Clean-up

[edit]

The article is not just about the bricks and mortar that made up the physical building. People are in fact a bigger portion of a "school" than the physical plant. The link is directly related to the content of the article, as per wikipedia external link guidelines. It certainly does add to the article, as the site has names and pictures of students during the peak population period of Laurentian, plus additional pictures of the building. More pages from the yearbooks of the school for the years in question are being added as time allows. Please do not delete my link again. If you want to make an article just about the physical plant, then you are free to do so. In the meantime, you are not the self-appointed censor operating under your own rules. The link is directly relevant to the article as per wikipedia guidelines. Leave it alone please. Eric CollEriccoll (talk) 13:14, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

The link has nothing to do with the school itself, as it is a link to a class website. It does not add to the article. Please do not add it back. Netalarmtrick or treat! 04:08, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

I am a graduate of the school. I added more info in the first paragraph, a picture of the half-demolished school and changed the tense of the "in the media" to the past tense. I also added an external link to the class of 79 web site, which has the names of students, pictures of students and the school. This is certainly related to the school. Please do not delete it again. I posted a link to this page on the class of 79 web site asking those grads to edit this page to add content.--Ericcoll (talk) 02:58, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see some issues of lacking NPOV and the need of a clean-up with this article. My concerns about neutrality come from declarations like "We were the undefeated champions at the sport", and the clean-up is just necessary. Maybe 30% of the article isn't really about the school, and the article doesn't read as an encyclopedic article. Somebody get out the broom! --Deenoe 14:05, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I started to clean it up, but there are just too many "rah-rah" statements in the article. eg: "It was a very sad moment for Laurentian as he was well known for the effort he put into making Laurentian High School a better place to be. " If I took out most of these types of sentences, the article would end up being really small. This article really needs an expert (a Wikipedian who went to the school). So the edits I made were fairly small and cosmetic. Thomas Dzubin Talk 13:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a major copyedit and added details about the early music program based on info supplied by one of the first band members. I also corrected the lyrics of the school song (original lyrics). If anyone has facts about the football program or a brief history about other clubs at LHS, such information might give the piece more balance. I removed personal opinion as much as I could without losing the essence of the article, recognizing that an earlier contributor had wonderful memories of his or her times at LHS and the people there.Rudnitski 12:31, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Third opinions

[edit]

Third Opinion: The external link does not seem to me to provide sufficient additional information to merit its inclusion. It refers to one specific year, and has no indication of notability - it's effectively a personal website, which is prohibited under the external links policy. If it had actual information about the history of the school (which might well include staff and pupils), I don't think there would be a problem. But a list of names of non-notable individuals does not seem to me worthy of inclusion. Anaxial (talk) 13:59, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll agree with this. The class of '79 site does not belong here. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 16:07, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not necessarily giving a third opinion, but the above users are correct in that the external link should not long here. Also, the user seems to have copied a talk page message from me onto this page... Netalarmtrick or treat! 02:41, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
