Fair use rationale for Image:Larry Gatlin-Brothers Also.jpg
[edit]Image:Larry Gatlin-Brothers Also.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure Larry Gatlin is a man. The photo being displayed (April 10, 2009) shows a female singer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.59.120.251 (talk) 04:17, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Gatlin Brothers
[edit]There should be a page for The Gatlin Brothers. I will create it when I am able.Tomsv 98 (talk) 22:20, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- I hope you'll include the personal data that's missing in this article.Caeruleancentaur (talk) 12:20, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
The Imperials
[edit]The article states that: He later auditioned for and joined the gospel music group The Imperials.
That statement is referenced and the source seems to support the claim.
However, the official bio states:
In 1971, he auditioned for the legendary Imperials, Elvis’ backup group. He didn’t get the job, ...
I hope some interested editor will research this and figure out whether one of these is wrong or whether there's some other explanation. For example, perhaps he interviewed for a permanent position and wasn't granted it but was asked to sing with them on an occasion or two.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:53, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- The Classic Imperials' official bio says that the group performed several concerts in 1971 with Gatlin filling in for Greg Gordon, who had recently left the group, until Sherman Andrus was hired as a permanent replacement. This contradicts the Southern Gospel History entry cited in this article. Perhaps, it is as you suggest: he was turned down for a permanent spot in the group but was called upon to fill in temporarily. NatureBoyMD (talk) 15:46, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
Gatlin was eligible to serve in the military during the Vietnam War...
[edit]"Gatlin was eligible to serve in the military during the Vietnam War; however, he did not" - Yeah. We were all "eligible". Larry worked with my aunt Elsie at Carvers's here in Houston - and believe me - he wasn't going to do anything that involved risking his neck. I can back that up with written evidence, so please don't ask if you don't want to know. 73.6.96.168 (talk) 16:15, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Move
[edit]Requested move 22 November 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: move to Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers. But since there was so little participation, anyone should feel free to move the article again, e.g., to Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers. I opted for the &-version since it appears at least once on their website. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 20:18, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
Larry Gatlin → The Gatlin Brothers – Most sources, including their official website, refer to Larry and his two brothers as a collective unit, with relatively little focus on Gatlin as a solo artist. Almost all of their singles, per Joel Whitburn, were credited to either "the Gatlin Brothers" or "Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers"; in fact, according to Whitburn, no single after 1979 credited Gatlin as a solo artist. While the Whitburn book uses "Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers", more modern sources such as the Grand Ole Opry website use just "the Gatlin Brothers" and refer to them as a three-piece act. As this article covers the career of the group more so than Gatlin as a solo performer, and there is more precedent toward crediting the group, I feel the article should be moved to either "the Gatlin Brothers" or "Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers". - Move to Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers. He is still the primary focus of the article. Theparties (talk) 23:13, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Theparties: do you think it should be "and" or "&"? Whitburn uses &, most uploads of "All the Gold in California" on YouTube and the like use &, but album covers seem about 50/50. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 04:13, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
